Associate Director or Director, Cheminformatics

KEMIO are representing a global pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA, who are building cheminformatics capabilities at their R&D site in Massachusetts.
This medium sized organisation has several successful medicines on the market and in their clinical pipeline. This is a great opportunity to come in as one of the first experts in Cheminformatics joining an exceptional computational modelling and sciences team. We are looking for an Associate Director or Director with several years’ experience in drug discovery and the biotech/pharma industry.
Responsibilities:
Implement a cheminformatics strategy that optimally AI/ML technologies to enable streamlining of predictive and generative models for drug discovery
Build and deploy effective generative AI workflows that contribute to the design of high-quality compounds
Work closely with molecular modelers, medicinal, and synthetic chemists to evaluate and advance compound ideas using sophisticated cheminformatics methods
Propose technology initiatives and develop tools that improve cheminformatics and workflows for small molecule drug design and analyses of large data sets
Utilize active learning strategies to generate high throughput workflows for virtual screening and processing of large datasets
Develop drug discovery knowledge and skills beyond the domain of expertise
Collaborate with other R&D teams and contribute to the overall company vision
Communicate scientific results effectively internally as well as in external presentations and publications
Experience Required:
Ph.D. in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, computer science or a related field with 5+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Ideally 10-12 years post PhD experience for Director level
Proven drug discovery experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
A demonstrated understanding of cheminformatics and AI/ML approaches applied to molecular design concepts
Excellent scientific programming experience using Python, Java, C, SVL
Outstanding oral and written communication skills and good presentation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented team environment
There is a fantastic salary and bonus compensation package on offer for this role, subject to the level of position offered (either Scientist, Associate Director, or Director). You will report into an Executive in the leadership team and work closely with other Directors in the computational team.
