Job Description

Develop and implement a winning cheminformatics strategy that optimally utilizes state-of-the-art AI and ML technologies

Derive information, insight, and knowledge from experimental and in silico data through the development, implementation, and application of AI/ML-driven predictive and generative modeling approaches

Work closely with project teams to build and deploy effective generative AI workflows that contribute to the design of high quality compounds in all drug discovery phases

Utilize active learning strategies to generate high throughput workflows for virtual screening and processing of large datasets

Evaluate and deploy novel AI approaches relevant to cheminformatics

As member of drug discovery design teams, work closely with molecular modelers, medicinal, and synthetic chemists to evaluate and advance compound ideas and generate testable hypotheses using sophisticated cheminformatics methods

Develop drug discovery knowledge and skills beyond the domain of expertise

Collaborate with other R&D teams and contribute to Alkermes' enterprise vision of utilizing AI

Communicate scientific results effectively internally as well as in external presentations and publications

Responsibilities

•Build and deploy a framework of AI/ML technologies that enables the streamlining of predictive and generative models for drug discovery

•Work closely with medicinal, synthetic, and computational chemists to enable the generation of data driven compound design hypotheses through the innovative use of cheminformatics and AI/ML approaches

•Work closely with IT specialists and research data engineers to generate automated and modular calculation engines and computational services that enable team members to seamlessly execute project-specific cheminformatics and AI/ML workflows for the exploration and capturing of new design ideas

•Propose technology initiatives, and be directly engaged in the development of tools that improve cheminformatics and AI/ML approaches and workflows for small molecule drug design and analyses of large and disparate data sets

•Work closely with research scientists, IT specialists, and data engineers from other functions within and beyond R&D to find creative solutions to data management, dissemination, and analysis challenges

•Identify and evaluate new cheminformatics and AI/ML technology and software available from commercial sources, open innovation, or through external collaboration opportunities

Qualifications

Ph.D. in computational chemistry, informatics, computer science or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience or M.S. with 12+ years of related experience are required; 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred

Drug discovery experience in an industrial setting

An outstanding scientific track record

A demonstrated intimate understanding of cheminformatics and AI/ML approaches applied to molecular design concepts

Experience in applying cheminformatics and AI/ML approaches to solving problems in compound design, data mining, implementing new tools, and generating automated workflows

A demonstrated expertise in scientific programming (e.g., Python, Java, C, SVL) with practical application of these skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills and good presentation skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented team environment
