Vice President, Talent and People Operations

Portland, OR, United States

About the Company We are a stealth renewable energy and ocean technology startup committed to rapidly developing and deploying technologies that will ensure a sustainable future for the Earth by unlocking the vast energy potential of its oceans.

About the Job We are developing a technology ecosystem that will provide civilizational levels of affordable renewable energy. Our People Operations function will be critical to building a high-performing culture, attracting and retaining the excellent people we will need in order to deploy this technology at scale.

As VP, Talent and People Operations, you will be responsible for leading, shaping, and scaling all human resources systems and processes. These systems and processes are essential components of the organization's "operating system." Getting them right will require you to be a strategic partner in defining, documenting, and bringing to life our culture of high-performing innovation and delivery. This will involve building and running the systems, structure, and team needed to support compensation and benefits, talent management, and employment law compliance at a rapidly growing company. You will independently drive the development and execution of strategic initiatives to continuously improve recruiting, employee onboarding and offboarding, feedback and decision making systems, leadership training and development, HRIS system integration, benefits selection, compensation reviews, policy and procedure administration, and more.

We expect you to be our internal subject matter expert on all things "HR." You have thoroughly studied best practices, but understand that each company and situation is unique. Rather than relying on a rigid playbook, you believe in delivering sensible solutions that are tailored to the specific needs and challenges of the organization. You understand that people are the core driver of a company's long-term success, and recognize that excellent people and talent processes are critical to attracting and retaining them. Getting things done is in your DNA, and you will execute quickly and excellently. You understand the importance of building reliable processes enabled by best-in-class technology. Finally, you thrive in a creative, scrappy, and collaborative environment in which the best ideas change the company's direction on a regular basis.

Our staff have worked at organizations such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Boeing, Virgin Orbit, Virgin Galactic, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, New Relic, Bridgewater, Raytheon, Disney Imagineering, and the US Army and Air Force, as well as research universities, startups, and small companies across a range of industries. We are organized as a public benefit corporation and are backed by leading venture capital firms, private investors, philanthropic investors, and endowments.

We strive to be the best team on the planet, and we compensate our team members accordingly.
