About American Express Ventures

American Express Ventures (“Amex Ventures”) seeks to identify and invest in category leading startups shaping the future of financial services, consumer commerce and enterprise software. As a value-added investor, Amex Ventures plays a key role in developing and executing long-term corporate strategic initiatives which contribute to American Express’ market leadership and growth. Team members work with senior management, C-level executives and business leaders across the company to execute venture investments, both domestically and internationally. The team also initiates and executes non-organic business development and strategic initiatives.

The Amex Ventures team is seeking a highly motivated individual to help drive key Business Development (BD) activities across reporting, startup sourcing, ecosystem network engagement & management, and platform.

The role is based in San Francisco, California or New York, NY.

Job Scope & Responsibilities

In this exciting opportunity, the Business Development Senior Analyst will be an integral part of Amex Ventures, playing a key role in the day-to-day core business development activities including startup sourcing, vetting & engagement, VC engagement, program execution, and reporting. The Business Development Analyst/Senior Analyst will support our investor team on startup meetings & American Express business engagement through sourcing, introductions, partnership ideation.

Support development of strategically relevant investment areas via startup sourcing, participating in startup & American Express business meetings, partnership idea generation

Own all end-to-end reporting and tracking against all BD workstreams, including but not limited to startup engagement, VC network, event performance

Provide executional support across BD programs (events, startup workshops, international and platform workstreams)

Develop robust sourcing for startup partnerships via desk research, networking

Build out startup/ VC ecosystem network to support team objectives

Assisting in development of content for senior leadership and external facing meetings

Create BD team playbook documenting processes around key team initiatives

Qualifications

The role is a multi-faceted one and requires both analytical, strategic, and interpersonal skill sets

Strong quantitative skills with ability to interpret, manipulate, and derive insights from data and proficiency with Excel functionalities

Excellent research skills with experience conducting in-depth market, industry, and competitor analysis.

Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships across various levels of an organization and externally. Existing relationships in the tech/ startup ecosystem preferred but not required.

Track record of working independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

At least 1+ years previous experience in a role with quantitative analysis, research, technological understanding and/or business development

Strategic skills, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations and to provide thought leadership

Interest in the venture capital and startup ecosystem

A deep passion and appetite to contribute to a company with a rich legacy of innovation

Ability to understand and synthesize technical information related to the startup ecosystem, such as cloud computing, GenAI, DevOps, and infrastructure is a plus

Bachelor’s degree required

Salary Range: $55,000 to $105,000 hourly + bonus + benefits
