Position Title: Library Assistant
Department: Education & Interpretation
Reports to: Head Librarian
FLSA Status: Part-time Permanent,Non-exempt
Compensation: $25 per hour
Schedule: 18 hours per week
Position Description:
Reporting to Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s head librarian, the librarian provides plant and gardening information internally and externally. This includes outreach and educational services for the visiting public, staff, and students of all ages. The librarian also helps with collections processing and maintenance.
Responsibilities:
Assist with horticultural and other information requests from the public.
Assist with providing information and materials for internal educational, horticultural, and other program staff.
Assist with collections processing and maintenance; this includes cataloging, serials check-in and claims, overdue book communications, occasional archives projects, records management transfer, storage decisions and packing, and deaccessions.
Assist with the management of volunteers.
Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.
Qualifications: MLS from an accredited program; a degree or equivalent experience in botany or horticulture
Passion for connecting users to resources
Some familiarity with library systems, design, and backend database architecture
Good writing skills
