We are seeking a Director of Operations with similar values, who can put his or her expertise to work. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Operations for Duininck. The Director of Operations will be responsible for driving the strategy across the Operations division, including Project Delivery, Culture and Training Initiatives, and Master Scheduling.
To be successful in this role, it is critical for the individual to have strength in strategic thinking to achieve organizational goals, as well as the tactical skills necessary for successful project delivery, for all Duininck field operations productivity and safety. The Director of Operations collaborate across the organization; including Project Management, General Superintendents, Equipment, Materials and Estimators to support the organization’s mission, vision, values, goals, and key metrics by developing and implementing innovative programs that drive project delivery, engagement, and culture.
Collaborate and review with Lead Estimator feasibility studies, providing guidance on metrics including capacities and efficiencies.
Collaborates cross functionally with all divisions to schedule resources for project needs, including subcontractors, material availability, trucking, labor and equipment mobilizations.
Conduct site visits and meet with project owners, inspectors, and government officials regularly to ensure compliance to requirements and advise on escalated on-site issues regarding production, change of scope, efficiencies, people, etc.
Make recommendations to the VP of Operations and Equipment Manager for the purchase of equipment and materials for the Heavy Civil department.
Review and collaborate project schedules with all General Superintendents, ensuring project delivery, quality, safety, compliance, and efficiency.
Responsible for the safety for all individuals on-site, enforcing Duininck Safety policies and practices and requirements (including proper training, PPE, safe practices, etc.)
Mentor, onboard and support the development of the field management teams.
Develop and oversee a long-range crew-based schedule and hiring needs, alongside of General Superintendents.
Develop and manage short and long-term operations plans that translate business goals into operational objectives for Field Management teams.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills necessary for success in this role:
Demonstrated experience in Heavy Highway and Heavy Civil Construction
Must be a strong team player, able to work effectively with a variety of people, personalities, skills, and organizational levels.
Experience leading departments or teams and being an active participant in collaborative decision making.
Effective coaching and mentoring for individuals and teams.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, sometimes with competing priorities.
Experience in gathering and presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
Proficient with technology, including the Microsoft Office suite and cloud-based software programs.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering | Management or related field, preferred, or equivalent experience is preferred.
A minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership capacity, with broad comprehensive knowledge of heavy highway and heavy civil construction practices.
Strong knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in utility construction.
Working knowledge of environmental, health and safety issues associated with heavy highway and heavy civil construction.
An ability to mentor, train and manage employees.
Ability to set clear direction, goals and objectives for superintendents, including regular review of job performance for direct reports.
Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
Strong ability to problem solve quickly and as needed.
Strong communication skills and an ability to work with variety of people and positions.
Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys, and job specifications.
An unwavering focus on safety.
Willingness to travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Eastern Dakotas.
