Chief Financial Officer

Provides leadership and overall direction in the accounting operations and financial reporting activities being dedicated to achieving cost savings, tight financial management maximizing interest on any unused funds.
Directs a group of functions which includes Finance, Human Resources and outsourced IT. Directs the organizational budgets. Participates as a member of the senior management team.
Responsibilities:
Manage and mentor the accounting and finance team to include the annual budget and cashflow forecasts.
Assists Executive Director in making financial plans.
Provides weekly AP Aging Report to Executive Director with I & E projections.
Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the agency, its programs, and activities.
Manage accounting control systems and internal audits ensuring the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports.
Develop budgets for the Mission as a whole, individual programs and new/proposed/expanded services, including the preparation of budget revisions as needed. Ensures a timely and sound annual budget in advance of each year.
Report on financial results and issues to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Oversee the Mission’s banking activities and actively manage cash flow to ensure it meets agency needs.
Serve as the agency’s primary liaison with its independent Auditor to ensure the annual audit is completed smoothly and in a timely manner.
Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and to determine areas that need improvement.
Think strategically, anticipate future consequences, trends and general financial climate to incorporate them into the organizational plans.
Provide oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with all employees.
Optimize accounting policies, procedures and processes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations and internal controls.
Report on financial results and issues to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
Oversee the Mission’s banking activities, insurance programs and benefit plans.
Assists Executive Director with strategic financial plans.
Manage the agency’s liability insurance program, including ongoing risk analysis.
Review efficiency/effectiveness of employee benefit programs, seeking approaches to lower costs where possible and consistent with required quality levels.
Continuously adapt to a fast-paced growing nonprofit and stay continuously educated on the services provided.
· Works with the management team to formulate and implement strategic plans and financial plans.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
CPA preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of senior accounting roles.
Strong financial (P&L) management skills
Extensive experience controlling operating costs and monitoring actual vs. budget performance.
Experience with Not – For – Profits organizations preferred.
Experience with Blackbaud products such as Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge preferred.
Excellent interpersonal / human relations skills
Microsoft Office experience required with advanced Excel skills.
