Academic Commons is the centralized learning assistance center within GW Libraries and Academic Innovation ( GWLAI ). Located at the entrance of Gelman Library, Academic Commons supports students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the GW community in their learning. Academic Commons offers an array of programming and services to support the GW community.
The Program Coordinator, Academic Commons will oversee the Ask Us Desk and Create Digital Studio service desks in GWLAI . Additionally, they will provide general administrative support to and on behalf of Academic Commons. This role will serve as a point of contact for Academic Commons, answer typical program questions, and assist the program staff with a variety of functional and administrative support. Support could include answering routine and complex inquiries, updating websites, planning and executing events, scheduling rooms, processing payroll, data entry, preparing reports, and similar duties. Often this role is tasked with outreach to other GW stakeholders in order to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies. Typical duties often are administrative in nature including tasks that are routine, and under the general supervision of senior personnel within the department.
Responsibilities include:
Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment at the Ask Us Desk and Create Digital Studio service areas.
Hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising peer navigators in Academic Commons and the Create Digital Studio, including monitoring weekly performance metrics and being the first point of contact for challenges that arise.
Coordinating and scheduling shifts for peer navigators in Academic Commons and the Create Digital Studio, managing the calendar and booking system.
Creating training and instructional materials for student staff to follow to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of service areas.
Performing time-keeping services for student employees in Academic Commons and the Create Digital Studio.
Processing all hiring paperwork for student employees in Academic Commons and the Create Digital Studio.
Communicating with patrons to answer questions and guide them to appropriate campus resources.
Providing tier-1 support for communications and inquiries regarding programs and services in Gelman Library.
Representing the program at community and campus events and enacting the program’s policies and protocols in the director’s absence.
The position is based in GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, D.C. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/ GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
