Brief Description of Duties

The position of Program Coordinator oversees the Higher Education Incentive Tuition Assistant program (HEI-TAP) at the UDC Community College. The responsibilities associated with this position are listed below and are intended to facilitate recruitment, admission, retention, and completion of a diverse pool of students who must be employed in licensed childcare facilities in the District of Columbia. The aim of this scholarship program is to provide tuition, fees and books for assistant and lead teachers in DC licensed childcare programs who must meet the requirements of the Pre-K for All DC legislation which was passed in 2008. This legislation requires that anyone who works in a DC childcare program must possess an AA (assistant teachers) or BA degree (lead teacher). The position reports to the Division Director for Business and Education degree programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain updated recruitment materials and distribute to prospective students and programs.

Host regular information and orientation sessions about the HEI-TAP program, both virtually and in person

Facilitate the development of a program recruitment plan in collaboration with the Division Director for Education and Dean of the Community College

Develop and implement a system for providing information and prompt responses to inquiries from perspective students, school systems or other individuals/agencies.

Make recommendations concerning admissions to the program that are in line with program requirements.

Work closely with the Office of Admissions to ensure that prospective students have met all admissions requirements and applications are submitted by each deadline date.

Monitor the progress of students through the program and student practicum experience.

Facilitate the review of data collection and analysis for planning purposes.

Ensure that students, faculty advisors, and other program constituents receive current program information.

Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum of two years professional experience in higher education administration at a community college

Minimum of a Masters degree (will consider Bachelors degree with related experience), preferably in Education

Enhanced knowledge of barriers faced by low-income, first-generation college students

Knowledge of the academic, social, and other factors affecting FTIC students preferably in the District of Columbia

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to interact well with a high-performing, mission-driven staff

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory backgroundinvestigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
