Parent Leadership Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Parent Leadership Specialist is responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting parent leadership and advocacy in the Baltimore City community. The Parent Leadership Specialist will work with parents to identify their needs and priorities in the areas of childcare, and to develop and implement campaigns to improve the access, quality, and affordability of childcare and other services for children and families. This is a new role. An ideal candidate is flexible, a self-starter, and possesses the willingness to be a thought partner with the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Develop and implement strategies to recruit, engage, and train parent leaders.

•Organize and facilitate parent meetings and workshops.

•Empower parents to advocate for their children and families at the local district level and beyond.

•Build and maintain relationships with parents, educators, community leaders, and elected officials for collaboration.

•Develop and manage campaign timelines.

•Track and report on campaign progress and outcomes.

•Create and distribute newsletter, emails and other social media materials to keep families informed about activities, policies, and events.

•Some weekend and evening work is required.

EDUCATION:

•Associates or Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

•2+ years of experience in community organizing or parent engagement.

•Knowledge of policy making process at the city level.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•Strong organizational and time management skills.

•Empathy and cultural sensitivity in working with diverse families.

•Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
