Summary : Provide support to paralegals and attorneys
Duties and Responsibilities include the following .
Document Preparation: Legal assistants assist in preparing various legal documents such as contracts, agreements, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence. They ensure that documents are properly formatted, proofread for accuracy, and comply with applicable legal standards. *
Filing and Organizing: Legal assistants maintain and organize legal files and documents, both in physical and electronic formats. They may create and manage filing systems, index and catalog documents, and ensure easy retrieval of information when needed. *
Scheduling and Calendaring: Legal assistants manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings, hearings, and court dates. They may also arrange travel accommodations and handle logistical details for depositions, trials, and other legal proceedings. *
Communication and Correspondence: Legal assistants handle incoming and outgoing communications for the legal team. This includes answering phone calls, responding to emails, drafting routine correspondence, and communicating with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other parties involved in a case.
Client Support: Legal assistants interact with clients, providing them with updates on case progress, scheduling appointments, and assisting in gathering necessary documents and information. They may also assist in conducting client intake interviews and maintaining client contact information.
Billing and Accounting: Legal assistants may assist in preparing vendor invoices. They work closely with the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices.
Court Support: Legal assistants provide administrative support during court proceedings. This may include organizing exhibits, coordinating with witnesses, taking notes during hearings, and ensuring all necessary documents and materials are readily accessible.
Legal Database Management: Legal assistants may be responsible for managing and updating legal databases and software systems. They input and retrieve case-related information, maintain document templates, and assist in managing electronic discovery processes.
Legal Ethics and Confidentiality: Legal assistants must adhere to ethical standards and maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information, case details, and privileged communications. *

Computer Skills:

Education:
High School Diploma or higher
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
