The Company

Today, we are reimagining parking to enable millions of consumers to just "drive in and drive out." We envision a future where people transact in the real world with a speed, ease and convenience that is unparalleled, even online. Tomorrow, we will power checkout-free experiences anywhere you go to make the everyday experiences of living, working and playing remarkable - giving us back our most valuable asset, time.

The Role

This is an exciting role for a proven leader who relishes the challenge of leading a diverse group of individuals that impact all aspects of our remarkable product.

You will lead the Infrastructure, Application Development and Quality Assurance teams and will have full autonomy to shape the direction of the technical platform that enables us to deliver cutting edge products that bridge the digital and physical worlds. We are looking for someone who understands how to architect a platform and build the processes to deliver on our ambitious product goals. You will set the vision for your teams, and build the operating model for how the teams will communicate and collaborate with every part of the org. You will rely on your skills as an excellent communicator to build strong relationships with your counterparts in Engineering, Product, Sales, Operations, Finance and People, understand their needs and help translate that into actionable plans to efficiently build products that impact the lives of our customers and partners.

We have a highly technical team, so we expect you to have the technical foundation to be able to moderate technical decisions, drive consensus and earn the respect of your team and your peers. We want you to be an evangelist for your vision for Engineering and help shape the team and its processes to achieve that vision. We expect you to use your experience to bring in best in class talent, drive an efficient hiring process and build a culture of accountability and high-performance within the Engineering org. More than anything else, we want you to embody our core values of being tenacious, putting humans first and challenging the status quo.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the CTO, you will lead the Infrastructure, Application Development and Quality Assurance teams that are responsible for the foundation of our platform and delivering a remarkable experience to our customers.

Be responsible for all technical decisions that affect how the Metropolis suite of products is developed, maintained, scaled and secured.

Work closely with leaders in all departments (especially Product, Marketing, Sales and Operations) and deliver cutting edge solutions that are aligned with their needs.

Collaborate with the Machine Learning and Hardware, and Technical Operations leaders in the Engineering org to ensure that the platform is built to handle and seamlessly integrate with the innovative solutions those teams bring to the market.

Work with the CTO to set the strategic direction of the Infrastructure and Application Development teams.

Collaborate with Product leaders to own not just the delivery of the company roadmap but actively contribute to it and ensure that Engineering needs are not compromised while delivering the roadmap.

Foster an agile culture that focuses on shipping features on time without compromising on quality and Engineering best practices.

Build and own the hiring plan for all Infrastructure and Application Development roles. Attract and nurture best in class talent and put them in a position to do their best work.

Actively help with talent evaluation, ensure that low performers are given adequate feedback and help build a culture of excellence and accountability in the Engineering org.

Leverage your technical expertise to bring in and evangelize best practices as it relates to software development, team organization and team productivity.

Resolve conflicts across teams within Engineering and with other departments to ensure that everyone is aligned towards a common vision.

Serve as a thought leader and be prepared to present and defend the vision for the Engineering platform to the C-Suite and potentially, the Board.

Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Engineering field, preferably in Computer Science.

At least 15 years of overall experience and at least 8 years of experience managing teams.

Experience leading teams of over 100 and scaling the Engineering org to 200+ engineers.

Expertise managing global teams would be a plus.

Proven experience managing, building and optimizing teams that are remote.

Excellent technical skills and prior experience at a Staff or Principal-level Engineer would be a huge plus.

Excellent Product Management skills and experience with aligning the Engineering org to deliver cutting edge B2C and B2B products and services.

Proven experience at mentoring highly talented IC's in the Engineering org and the technical ability to moderate discussions between them and make tough decisions.

Strong cross-department collaboration and interpersonal skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. String understanding of how to communicate effectively to IC's within the Engineering org, while also being comfortable presenting to the C-Suite.

Experience with some or all of the Metropolis tech stack - JVM based languages, AWS, Kubernetes, Event driven architecture - would be a plus.

When you join Metropolis, you'll join a team of world-class product leaders and engineers, building an ecosystem of technologies at the intersection of parking, mobility, and real estate. Our goal is to build an inclusive culture where everyone has a voice and the best idea wins. You will play a key role in building and maintaining this culture as our organization grows. The anticipated base salary for this position is $250,000.00 to 300,000.00. The actual base salary offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment. Base salary is one component of Metropolis's total compensation package, which may also include access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a lucrative stock option plan, bonus plans and more.
