The Johns Hopkins University is seeking to hire a Research Specialist II within the School of Medicine. The position will involve using cellular, molecular biology, and genetic techniques to study cancer metastasis and therapy resistance. We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and independent individual, who has proven experience working within a medium to large sized lab. The successful applicant will have a track record of using scientific knowledge and lab experience to make independent decisions. Expertise in maintaining mouse colonies and obtaining approval for animal experiments is highly desired. Strong organizational and written communication skills will be required to carry out assigned projects, including an ability to prepare ACUC, IRB and IRB protocols.

This will be an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic and stimulating scientific environment. The Egeblad Laboratory is focused on identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive metastasis and cancer therapy resistance. The lab combines mouse models, intravital imaging, primary cell co-cultures, cell biology, molecular genetics, bulk and single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and advanced microscopy to understand how specific immune cells regulate cancer cell metastasis and therapy resistance. Research in the lab makes extensive use of mouse models, co-cultures of primary cells isolated from genetically engineered mouse models and from patient tissue, and of microscopy.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Develop assays and protocols for PI approval and design experimental approaches for research projects.

Perform assays including culturing of primary cells, immune staining, flow cytometry.

Make significant contributions to research efforts in collaboration with senior postdoctoral fellows.

Responsible for assigned daily research projects.

Utilize specialized knowledge to interpret results, e.g. reading controls, evaluate results.

Order equipment and supplies, interface with vendors.

Independently teach/train new students, technicians and fellows in the lab.

Guide, direct, and facilitate problem solving for entry-level lab members on day-to-day problems with more challenging research assays.

Make scientific contribution to protocol development, efficiency, and productivity.

Collaborate in development of new techniques and instruments.

Apply published research methods to current experimental work by investigating published protocols and discussing them with PI.

Process analyzed data into figures for scientific publications.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Two (2) years laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.

Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years laboratory experience performing relevant techniques and tasks.

Two or more years of experience with maintaining animal colonies, performing animals' experiments, and assisting with obtaining approved animal protocols.

Starting Salary Range: Min $40,900 - Max $71,600 Annually ($70,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
