We are St Barnabas Hospices (the Group), comprised of three merged Sussex Hospices –Chestnut Tree House (a nurse-led children’s hospice in Arundel),St Barnabas House (an adult hospice based in Worthing) and, most recently,Martlets Hospice (an adult hospice based in Brighton & Hove), together withMartlets Care , a subsidiary domiciliary care agency. Now the largest group of hospices in Sussex and one of the largest in the UK, we are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to adults, children and their families across Sussex.
Following a period of significant change and the recent merger of Martlets Hospice, we are now emerging as a new Group and continuing to evolve with a strong focus on organisational development, including the development of a new people plan, substantial culture development and simultaneously devising our business plan for 25/26.Other immediate priorities include the continued focus on the quality of patient care, the restructuring of clinical services and financial sustainability.
To achieve this transformation, we are now seeking an authentic and credible senior leader with significant experience of driving change in a complex environment. This could be in the context of merger, acquisition and/or in a group structure.
You will be an outstanding people leader, experienced in empowering and galvanising large, multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams of staff.
As we emerge from a period of such considerable change, our next Chief Executive will demonstrate an ability to bring a degree of calm to the organisation, balancing the need to consolidate and strengthen our current operations with the vision and ambition to look for future opportunities to develop and enhance our impact.
It is critical that our Chief Executive is financially astute and can evidence strong commercial nous with a demonstrable background in driving cost efficiencies and income diversification.
As a significant hospice group, we have an influential part in sharing our expertise and influencing best practices in the sector. You will, therefore, also be a confident and credible ambassador for the Group, able to develop long-lasting relationships and represent the Group on a regional and national scale. You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record in partnership working and have a natural ability to connect with a wide range of stakeholders.
Above all else, you will be a visible and committed leader who is passionate about our cause and intrinsically connected to the vision and mission of the organisation.

St Barnabas House provides specialist palliative care to adults in the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas through a range of services, including in-patient care and community living well services. Our sister hospice, Chestnut Tree House, is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire, providing specialist palliative care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.
