Overview:

The The Mayors Office of Black Male Advancement is seeking an innovative, self-driven, equity-focused individual who wants to make a positive impact on Bostons Black male communities as a Strategic Initiatives Manager.The Strategic Initiatives Manager, in consultation with the Executive Director, is responsible for the development of a body of work at Black Male Advancement focused on promoting economic advancement for communities harmed by inequitable systems. In coordination with internal and external partners, the Strategic Initiatives Manager will:

Plan, execute research, analysis, and policy formation for the advancement of Black men and boys.

Manage and evaluate projects from planning to implementation.

Review the impact of programs/initiatives to determine the most effective approaches to maximizing city services for Boston residents.

This role lives in the Equity & Inclusion Cabinet. Please read below to understand our larger vision.

The mission of the Equity and Inclusion Cabinet is to ensure that every resident has fair access to City resources and opportunities. We achieve this by embedding equity and inclusion into our current City practices, building our collective capacity on issues of racial and social justice, and fostering a more welcoming and accessible city.

The departments in the Equity and Inclusion Cabinet take an anti-poverty approach to their work, focusing on the following areas:

Improving outcomes for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) communities, in particular immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ residents.

Increasing access for people with disabilities and those who speak a language other than English.

Eliminating barriers to fair housing and human rights.

This is not your typical 9-5pm role. We are looking for folks that share our core values of people-first leadership, intentional strategy and justice. Learn about the Equity & Inclusion Cabinet at boston.gov/equity .

Responsibilities:

Research and Analysis:

Review and analyze existing City programs and policies, address gaps, and leverage interventions that are most effective.

Coordinate connections across City departments to strengthen Office of Black Male Advancement strategies and maximize City services for Boston residents.

Develop materials to increase public understanding of strategic initiatives/programs that promote economic advancement and security for Black men and boys.

Project Management:

Overseeing, documenting and implementing all aspects of assigned projects.

Organizing project time-lines to ensure deadlines are met.

Setting up and organizing meetings pertaining to projects.

Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations.

Administration:

Assist in the development of communications such as remarks, presentations, and correspondence to a multitude of stakeholders.

Ensure the appropriate collection, analysis and reporting of data required for analysis, strategic planning and decision making to support Office of Black Male Advancement objectives.

Ensure the highest level of professionalism and service for the Office of Black Male Advancement and the Equity and Inclusion Cabinet.

Assist on draft policies and procedures.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications: A Bachelors degree is required, as well as three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in program design, management, and implementation, preferably in the public sector. A Masters degree in public policy, public administration, or a similar area may be substituted for the required experience.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.

Strong ability to lead projects and work independently.

Strong research and analytical skills.

Adept at analyzing data and translating numbers into a concise story that can be shared with internal and external stakeholders.

Excellent listening skills; able to distill insights from listening and make recommendations accordingly.

Critical thinking skills and creative problem-solving abilities.

Self-starter with strong attention to detail and process oriented.

Excellent at building internal and external relationships and collaborative work environments.

Experience writing reports, memos, and press releases is highly desired.

Experience in designing and leading pilot research studies.

Adaptable and able to manage multiple and evolving priorities.

Experience analyzing and using quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategies and initiatives.

Candidate must perform all work in an equitable manner, with a strong commitment to the Equity and Inclusion Cabinets mission.

Performs related duties as required.
