IT Systems Engineer

Boston, MA, United States

Headquartered in Boston, Forward Financing has been recognized as a Best Place to Work by the Boston Business Journal and Built In Boston and is certified as a Great Place to Work.® At Forward, we believe every business deserves financial opportunity. That’s why we provide fast, flexible capital to small businesses that have often been underserved by traditional financing options. Our mission is to build a world-class fintech company so our customers and people can reach their full potential. We’re investing in our employees, technology, and customer experience – with long-term success in mind every step of the way.

In this role you will configure and support IT endpoints, systems, and networks.  The ideal candidate will be highly technical and have demonstrated success working at companies with SaaS-based infrastructure and systems. You will work directly with end-users to fix their technical issues while identifying root causes and implementing technical solutions to improve our technology.  You will also be helping design and implement company networks, zero-trust endpoint frameworks, and help get the most out of our MDM software.

This is a great role for a highly technical contributor who wants to learn and improve skills related to running an IT department at a cloud-based, for-profit company.  The ideal candidate will constantly identify areas where the team can improve systems and processes and own implementing these improvements. This role will require two days a week in our Boston office.

Why you should apply:

Meaningful work. Each day, you will solve interesting problems at our rapidly growing company.  There is a strong technical foundation and the desire to always make things better.

Mission driven company. Forward is a trusted source of fast, flexible funding for small businesses that have often been underserved by traditional financing options. When you join the team, you will help ensure all small businesses have access to the financial support they need to succeed.

In this role you will:

Provide excellent end user technical support and service delivery to Forward colleagues in a mixed Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS environment

Act as an ultimate technical escalation point for support issues

Configure and deploy endpoints via MDM (we use Kandji, Jumpcloud, and Google Workspace).  Leverage MDM to reduce the time spent deploying Windows and Mac endpoints.

Identify and implement configuration changes to continuously improve the security of SaaS software

Work with business stakeholders to configure and improve information systems

Troubleshoot, manage, and upgrade physical and virtual networks

Take the initiative to identify areas for enhancement in IT Support service processes to drive efficiency and improve employee experience

Own and execute on components of larger IT projects

Independently manage time effectively and prioritize issues/problems that arise via our ticketing system

Create documentation leveraging data from our ticketing system to support and empower our end-users

Follow up on support tickets and slacks in a timely manner

Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment

Requirements:

(Even if you don’t check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply.)

2+ years supporting macOS, Windows, and iOS/Android (Chrome OS a plus)

Bachelor’s degree (technical preferred) or equivalent work experience

Success solving IT problems by writing custom scripts in python, bash, or powershell

Ability to solve complex technical issues independently

Expert troubleshooting skills for devices (laptops, work from home hardware, mobile devices, printers, etc.)

Experience troubleshooting and configuring a wide variety of SaaS applications (Google Workspaces, Atlassian, Slack, etc.)

Knowledge of networking concepts

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Creative thinking and a genuine desire to challenge yourself every day

A drive for continuous improvement

Bonus:

Conversational Spanish skills to help support colleagues in Latin America

Salesforce (or other CRM) experience

Forward Financing is a fintech company headquartered in Boston that provides fast, flexible, and reliable capital to small businesses nationwide. Since 2012, Forward has provided over $2.4 billion in financing to more than 55,000 small businesses. Forward has been consistently named by the Boston Business Journal and Built In Boston (and more!) as one of the best places to work in Massachusetts.

Forward actively promotes a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in all we do. We encourage a workplace where trust and respect are paramount and all employees feel valued, heard, and accepted. By accepting diversity of thought, background, and identity, we will continue to become a stronger team and a better organization.

Our diverse and driven group of 440 people, with more than 200 based in the U.S., and 240 internationally, is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employees come to work (or log on virtually!) knowing they are helping thousands of small businesses while advancing their own careers. If this sounds exciting to you, learn more about our leadership team and our open opportunities.

Perks & Benefits:

At Forward, our team members are at the heart of our company, and we are committed to taking care of them as people, not just employees. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, and commuter benefits, a flexible time-off policy, 401k match, wellness reimbursement, paid volunteering days, annual professional development budget, and charitable donation match.

At Forward, employee choice means each individual gets to decide where they work. Almost all team members have the choice of where to live and where to work. As a business, we are focused on impact; we are more concerned with your contributions to the success of the company than where you get your work done. If face-to-face time is desired, people managers are empowered to find a cadence that works for their team.

When we aren’t collaborating to drive business and support our customers, we’re finding virtual and in-person ways to get to know our colleagues, celebrate team wins, and have fun together!
