Manager, Real Estate Legal Operations

Tempe, AZ, United States

Our mission is simple, we are changing the way people buy cars. We are the first 100% online car-buying experience, which means we have no sales team and no commission-based positions within our company. We are completely disrupting the auto industry by removing the painful process of the dealership experience and replacing it with a seamless and convenient online platform. Buying a car the old fashioned way sucks and we are working hard to make it NOT suck.

We are looking for people who are excited to thrive in an environment of impactful change. Team spirit is evident at Carvana and everyday we let our passions and creativity foster innovation. We take big swings, set ambitious goals, work on challenging initiatives, and challenge each other to make data and process-driven decisions in everything we do. Here are a few of our stories ! We’ve been changing the game since 2013, and we’re not taking our foot off the gas now. Want more of the story? Check out our background here .

About the team and position

We’re looking for a Real Estate Legal Manager in our Legal Department to join a growing organization. The Real Estate Legal Manager will report to Carvana’s Real Estate Associate General Counsel and work closely within Carvana’s Real Estate Legal, Portfolio Management and Licensing teams. Ideally, a candidate for the position should bring 7+ years of relevant experience in a corporate, legal or similar environment, with some combination of regulatory research, contracts, project management, real estate, portfolio management or legal experience. Experience operating in collaborative, fast-paced & dynamic organizations is a plus. Necessary skills include ability to research and analyze information, ability to organize and distill facts targeted toward the intended audience, high attention to detail, direct experience supervising, managing and completing time-sensitive tasks, and leading projects or initiatives to organizational or stakeholder objectives. This role provides opportunities for learning and growth in arenas including portfolio management, lease administration, and real estate transactions. The role will also intersect with and support business, risk, regulatory, and licensing matters to help build cross-functional collaboration and yield additional efficiencies across adjacent teams.

Strong communication, project implementation, and task-management proficiencies are expected. The Real Estate Legal Manager works collaboratively with all other members of the Real Estate Legal, Portfolio Management and Licensing teams and must be able to prioritize and re-prioritize work across multiple projects, which may vary in size and scope, as needed to support the teams’ ambitious efforts. Your contributions will have a tangible impact within a large and well-established industry disruptor where innovation and creativity are always welcome.

What you’ll be doing

Support the Real Estate Legal, Portfolio Management and Licensing teams, as well as the broader real estate and legal departments, to manage or support daily operations, strategic development, and continuous improvement processes for the team.

Seek and identify opportunities to build process or workflow solutions within and outside the team that create opportunities for the business to reduce risk, build efficiency, or solve existing gaps within / between teams or in current workflow.

Work on building strategy and execution plans for new initiatives and projects, leading or managing key tasks and assignments within cross-functional projects.

Work closely with attorneys and project manager(s) within the team to improve research, analytics and reporting capabilities to continually refine efforts and results in new and ongoing initiatives.

Work cross-functionally as a highly-flexible and adaptable team player who may lead or support various “special projects” (new initiatives or responsibilities assumed by the team) and who may help research, build or manage processes or drive execution on already established or early stage initiatives.

Support cross-functional and cross-departmental efforts in high-impact and time-sensitive projects of varying scope and complexity, with an interest in continually learning and understanding how to scale or improve efforts toward measurable business impact

Work cross-functionally to identify gaps within or across teams and build bridges or processes to fill those gaps. Identify and elevate risk management considerations, timeline or process hurdles or other friction points so solutions can be incorporated into the project life-cycle.

Other duties and tasks as assigned.

What you should have

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Experience managing a direct report or two.

Demonstrated proficiency in project management, organizational and time-management responsibilities with ability to identify specific goals and to work collaboratively within a team to accomplish those goals.

Demonstrated proficiency in and aptitude for project, file and task tracking, transaction closing management and anticipating next steps.

Initiative and desire to independently complete tasks, while also being able to delegate tasks, that enable greater team efficiencies and results, while having the self-awareness to not implement change without consideration for collateral / unintended impacts.

Demonstrated knowledge and progressive proficiency of Microsoft Office products, and aptitude for project management tools and software.

Strong initiative and ability to use creative problem solving skills to address support and process needs within a team.
