Summary
Under direct supervision, is responsible for providing customer support services to residents of Bexar County on the use of computers, printers, copy machines, and other equipment and devices; opens and closes the Center, cleans and maintains the Center to include study spaces and meeting rooms, and provides administrative assistance when needed; performs related duties as required.
* Full-Time position may be required to assume staff and facilities management responsibilities in the absence of Manager and/or Assistant Manager; Functions as lead staff member; Opens and closes the Biblio Technical Center at the start of business and secures the building at close of business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures computer labs are open and closed per operating and reservation schedules
Assists customers with the use of Center's supported hardware and software applications
Conducts library tours for visitors
Conducts educational presentations to school and community groups
Assist with location set-up and break-down at community events to enhance enrollment and inform patrons of available services
Performs basic troubleshooting of Center's supported hardware, software, printers, and copy machines;
Escalates hardware, software, printers, and copy machines malfunctions to the appropriate County department(s) or vendor(s)
Enforces Center's policies and procedures
Cleans and maintains the Center and its equipment
Maintains the Center's reservation schedule
Answers telephones and processes voice mail messages
Responds to general questions regarding the Center and services offered
May order and maintain supplies
Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, supplemented by college-level course work or experience in Computer Science, Information Systems or a closely related field, and one (1) year customer support or office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Good knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages; basic knowledge of troubleshooting hardware and software problems; knowledge of Internet applications
Ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse client base; ability to provide basic technical support and problem solving assistance to users to facilitate the use of personal computer systems, printers, copy machines, and other equipment and devices; ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions; ability to work independently; ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside agencies, service providers, vendors and the general public
May be required to work at multiple branch locations on a rotating basis
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Must be able to work weekends
Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
Bi-lingual Spanish language preferred, but not required.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working in indoor conditions 90 percent, field work 10 percent
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 5-10 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position
