Position description

Title: Academic Rheumatologist

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Division of Rheumatology at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) announces the search for an academic basic scientist and rheumatologist to join the faculty at the level of Assistant Professor. The individual can be in a mentored role. We are seeking an outstanding candidate who desires an academic basic science career and who will participate in clinical and teaching activities, including care for patients seen in the ZSFG ambulatory and inpatient settings. The Division, currently comprised of 6 MD and 1 PhD faculty, is committed to academic, clinical and educational excellence.

The ZSFG Division of Rheumatology functions within the context of the three divisions of rheumatology at UCSF, which are collectively ranked in the top 10 such rheumatology divisions by U.S. News and World Report. ZSFG and UCSF have been partners in public health since 1872, attracting physicians who are leaders in their fields and making ZSFG one of the nation's top academic medical centers, training tomorrow's providers and leaders and providing the best care that medical science has to offer. ZSFG is an essential part of San Francisco's health care system serving over 100,000 patients each year and providing 20 percent of the city's inpatient care. We serve the community with a full complement of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic and psychiatric services for adults and children. ZSFG offers compassionate and culturally competent care to a diverse community of patients in more than 20 languages. ZSFG is owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Public Health and is part of a city-wide integrated health care system, providing primary, specialty and hospital care for vulnerable populations.

The overall mission of the ZSFG Division of Rheumatology is to support and foster educational, clinical, research and service activities that align with the larger goal of improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities for people with rheumatic conditions. Given the health system's role in the public safety net in San Francisco, clinical, research, educational and service activities are organized around the needs of our patient populations. The diverse and highly active clinical programs of the Division include outpatient clinics (including a dedicated rheumatoid arthritis clinic), inpatient consultation, and oversight of outpatient infusions of immunomodulating agents. Faculty interact closely and regularly with their counterparts in Dermatology, Nephrology, Neurology, and other fields. The Division also has a robust research portfolio, including federally funded grants in the areas of epidemiology, clinical informatics and translational research.

The Division has a long history of making outstanding contributions to medical education and all faculty in the Division have been recognized with teaching awards. Dedication to teaching medical students, medical residents and rheumatology fellows, in inpatient as well as outpatient settings, represents an important mission of the Division.

Duties for the available position will include rotating as an attending physician on the inpatient consult service and staffing several ambulatory rheumatology clinics per week. Opportunities for attending on the inpatient Internal Medicine service can also be arranged. Applications are welcome from individuals with a strong desire to contribute to a Rheumatology training program and who aim to make scholarly contributions to medical education or clinical research. The amount of time spent in clinical/scholarly activity will depend upon the applicant's qualifications and promise. Applicants must be MDs board-certified in Internal Medicine, board-certified or board-eligible in Rheumatology, have a record of clinical excellence, evidence of rheumatology publications, and excellent teaching ability.

Please apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF04869. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $121,100-$158,000. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
