The Senior Project Manager provides leadership and oversight to a team of project managers while also managing strategic projects and initiatives directly. As the key liaison between business stakeholders, teams and resources, the Senior Project Manager will ensure effective backlog management, define and execute upon key priorities and continuously improve upon processes and methodologies.
A Day In The Life
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Exhibits leadership and helps build high-performing teams.
Work with Project Sponsor and stakeholders to complete project charter, technical requirements, and business requirements to outline the project’s scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, and timing
Facilitates stand-up and status meetings/ceremonies and monitors progress against commitments.
Leads project prioritization, capacity planning and risk identification/escalation.
Coaches team members and ensures understanding and adherence to processes with quality.
Facilitates the removal of impediments and roadblocks, addresses issues/blockages, and helps minimize disruptions for team members.
Seeks regular input from team members and implements changes to improve efficiency and increase productivity.
Reports the progress and highlights any risks/issues to leadership.
Facilitates large, cross-functional group meetings and planning sessions.
Manage project development from initiation to closure.
Complete work breakdown structure to estimate effort required for tasks.
Effectively manage project scope by ensuring any changes to scope are documented and approved with project change request process.
Track and report project milestones and provide status reports to sponsor(s).
Lead, coach, and motivate project team members on a proactive basis.
Determine how results will be measured and complete a post-project retrospective to determine how well results were achieved.
Develop tools and best practices to management and execution of projects.
What You’ll Need For Success
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field is required
PMP Certification is preferred
7+ years project management experience; preferably in online degree program management
Experience working in Higher Education and/or agency is desired
Proven ability to lead multiple projects and project teams simultaneously with a history of delivering on schedule and within budget
Proven ability to collaborate effectively on multiple large scale projects with staff at all levels
Flexible, self-starter who is willing to take initiative in a fast-paced and dynamic business culture
Strong organizational skills
Proven track record of strong presentation and communication skills
Ability to communicate with a cross functional team that is geographically dispersed and of different professional backgrounds (i.e. Technology teams, Creative groups, Agents, etc.)
Advanced knowledge of Project Management tools and PowerPoint required, Visio preferred
