FAD's Fiscal Policy and Surveillance Division (FP) undertakes analytical and operational work and provides support to area department teams. The successful candidate would be a part of the economist team working on FAD's flagship publication, the Fiscal Monitor (FM); would undertake analytical work on fiscal policy issues; and serve as a fiscal economist on an area department country team-including possibly of a LIC or fragile state if required.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute either individually, or as part of a team, to the division's research program on topics in the area of fiscal policy, public economics, and fiscal/monetary/financial/structural nexus. These studies could cover advanced, emerging market and low-income economies. FP economists also contribute to the review of the fiscal aspects of Fund documents on G-7 countries, the euro area, and key emerging economies, and of policy and multilateral surveillance papers. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with senior staff, including the Division Chief and Deputy Director overseeing the division, as well as participate in outreach activities such as for the FM.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have an advanced university degree in economics or other relevant area with at least four (4) years of relevant professional level experience, and excellent knowledge of macroeconomic theory and econometric techniques; familiarity with key macroeconomic and fiscal policy challenges in developed and developing economies; strong drafting and presentation skills; strong interest and skills in policy-oriented research; proven capacity to independently carry out research projects; strong organizational skills and capacity to prioritize work.
