Economist/Senior Economist (MCMSR)

Washington, DC, United States

Work for the IMF. Work for the World.

Description:

The Macro-financial Surveillance and Review Division (MCMSR) has an opening for a A11-A14 staff position. The SR division leads MCM's operational, policy, and analytical work relating to bilateral surveillance in close coordination with other divisions. The division contributes to the development of analytical tools, policies, best practices, and staff guidance on bilateral surveillance matters, and supports area departments' work in integrating macrofinancial analysis in Article IV consultations. The division is responsible for preparing MCM comments on all country and policy papers related to bilateral and regional surveillance. Key responsibilities include leading the review of country and policy papers and coordinating comments from MCM experts. SR economists are also involved in the full range of MCM work, including participation in FSAP, Article IV, and technical assistance missions. The division also has a broad analytical work agenda and economists are expected to initiate and undertake high-quality analytical research on relevant macro-financial topics (e.g., macrofinancial linkages, macroprudential policy, fintech, gender, and financial inclusion).

Qualifications:

In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, we are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated track-record of high-quality analytical work, excellent oral and written communication skills, capacity to independently handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and strong interpersonal skills and team spirit. Knowledge of macrofinancial linkages and relevant financial sector policies to address vulnerabilities-including prior outside experience, e.g., working in a central bank-would be viewed favorably, but is not required; most important is that the candidate has a strong interest in macro-financial issues and sees the SR division as a place to expand his or her knowledge of financial sector issues.
