Job Description Job Description Description: BASIC FUNCTION:
Director of Counseling Services will manage and direct intake, assessment, and referral to counseling services for eligible persons including the development and utilization of the Approved Professional Network of licensed mental health professionals in regions across Texas. This position must live in the Dallas area and office at Texas Baptists main offices in Dallas.
Requirements: RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
*1. Provide direction and supervision of affiliated professionals for intake, assessment, and referral of eligible persons to counseling services.
*2. Develop and manage the Approved Professional Network of licensed mental health professionals providing a statewide network of services for assessment, referral, and treatment. Recruit, evaluate, and maintain professional relationships and standards with licensed mental health professionals in regions across Texas related to the Approved Professional Network.
*3. Develop and coordinate programs and events that promote overall Ministerial Health. In coordination with other staff in the Center for Ministerial Health, contribute to professional growth and development opportunities for ministers and their families related to mental health education and long-term resilience in the ministry.
*4. Be a resource for Texas Baptists (TXB) for all matters that relate to mental health issues and work with other TXB ministries to educate staff and churches on such matters.
*5. Coordinate and oversee a strategy for resourcing TXB churches on all matters that relate to preventing and reporting sexual abuse and how to care well for the victims.
*6. Work in conjunction with Ministry Safe, TXB General Counsel, or other legal sources to keep Texas Baptists’ Sexual Abuse Handbook and internal personnel policies and procedures reviewed and updated.
*7. Oversee TXB’s contract with Ministry Safe including a strategy for implementing their recommendations related to background checks, following up on flagged individuals, and training staff/volunteers for TXB events and ministries to ensure TXB follows guidelines related to preventing and reporting sexual abuse, as well as caring well for victims.
*8. Serve as a staff liaison to any TXB board, committee, or group and participate in Executive Board meetings as requested by executive leadership.
*9. Direct and manage the effective use of provided funds to authorized service providers for counseling and therapeutic services. Provide monthly reports of counseling services to the Center Director and executive leadership, including statistical analysis and information related to program implementation, while maintaining HIPAA requirements and client confidentiality.
*10. Provide leadership and clear direction to align staff performance with the organization’s mission, ethics, values, priorities, and strategies including participation in the BGCT staff team to address needs regarding clergy conduct.
*11. Serve as the primary contact for churches with questions about mental health issues or sexual abuse prevention or crisis intervention.
*12. Monitor and report to your Center Director and the Associate Executive Director on any occasion when a church is not following TXB’s recommended protocols related to sexual abuse prevention, reporting, victim care, or other ethical beliefs and practices. Assist church leaders, as requested, with understanding how to implement and abide by established guidelines or ethical beliefs and practices.
*13. Maintain professional growth through continuing education, skill development, and professional involvement in the areas of mental health, counseling, and licensed proficiencies.
*14. Process all correspondence accurately and timely.
*15. Prepare and proofread letters, memos, spreadsheets, and other correspondence accurately and timely.
*16. Answer phones promptly, take accurate messages, and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
*17. Attend meetings and participate in trainings as required to maintain appropriate licenses, certifications, and corporate expectations.
*18. Maintain compliance with the Baptist General Convention of Texas policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: NOTE: These requirements represent minimum levels in order to perform the job on a satisfactory basis. Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.
1. In-depth understanding of knowledge related to mental and emotional health, generally acquired through a Master’s degree, professional licensure (such as the LPC), and 5 years or more proven, applicable experience.
2. In-depth knowledge of Ministry Safe trainings, software, and background check processes.
3. In-depth knowledge of BGCT policies and procedures in regards to background checks, Sexual Abuse Awareness Trainings, renewal standards, event policies and requirements, and HIPAA compliance.
4. Active membership in a church supportive of the BGCT during employment.
5. Must live in the Dallas area and office at the Texas Baptists main offices in Dallas.
6. Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally, with an understanding and commitment to Baptist doctrine and distinctives.
7. Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings to include but not limited to clergy, laity, institutional staff/faculty, various Baptist organizations, churches of all sizes, cultural identities and worship styles, board and council members, Baptists of Texas and beyond.
8. Proficient ability to plan, administer, and report budgets.
9. Ability to provide strategic and logistical planning and facilitate meetings, conferences, workshops, and retreats as required.
10. Evidence of strong professional relationships and a history of professional achievement including, but not limited to, membership in organizations, accreditations, and leadership among licensed mental health professionals.
11. Ability to effectively manage personnel; requires motivation, scheduling, and evaluation.
12. Excellent listening skills, interpersonal skills, and relationship-building skills including the ability to comfort and encourage others.
13. Excellent, demonstrated leadership skills necessary to appropriately influence people to achieve a desired outcome.
14. Ability to travel to various geographic locations, including travel by car, and some overnight and weekend stays.
15. Proficient client management skills that maintain a high standard of confidentiality and ethical decision-making.
16. Proficient ability to speak, read, and write English.
17. Ability to speak clearly and make oneself understood in face-to-face interactions; to articulate with accuracy on the telephone; ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, and proficiently communicate in situations with some background noise.
18. Ability to concentrate on fine detail with some interruption; ability to focus attention on tasks for 45-60 minutes at a time on a continuous basis.
19. Ability to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts; ability to remember verbal and written tasks/assignments from a few hours to long periods of time.
20. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, churches, committees, organizations, etc.
21. Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task; proficient ability to exhibit detail-oriented skills necessary to understand and manage a wide range of information from a vast amount of entities.
22. Professionalism in the workplace to include accurate communication with others.
23. Proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Google Mail (Gmail) email, and internet skills.
24. Ability to use up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
