The Senior IT Project Manager is primarily responsible for management and completion of software development and other IT projects on time, within budget, and within scope. Projects tend to be of moderately to significantly complex and sizable projects with medium to large, cross-functional teams. Projects can span multiple phases and/or multiple years. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
This position works closely with software engineering teams (technical architects, application developers, quality assurance/testing engineers) to execute full-cycle software projects. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with IT leadership to make sure that the scope and direction of projects are on schedule. Works with functional department heads to ensure cross-functional projects are adequately staffed with representatives from the applicable business units.
Works closely with software engineering teams to deliver robust software systems that meet client expectations.
Coordinates internal resources and vendors for the execution of projects.
Ensures that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
Develops project scopes and objectives, involving relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
Ensures resource availability and allocation.
Develops project plans to track progress.
Uses appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
Measures project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
Reports and escalates to management as needed.
Manages relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Performs risk management to minimize project risks.
Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation, including all project artifacts, e.g., charter, risk assessment, project closure reports. Lead post-project reviews.
Performs other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Required: Minimum of six years of project management experience, including proven working experience managing projects in the information technology sector.
Proven experience managing moderately to significantly complex and sizable projects with medium to large, cross-functional teams.
Solid technical background, with understanding of software development life cycle.
Familiarity with Agile and waterfall project management methods.
Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
Proven experience in change management.
Proficient in project management software.
Business skills, budgeting, and analysis.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Skills Required: Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
Capacity to identify and connect complex software development efforts to broader business needs.
Strong work ethic, professional, organized, and flexible; able to work independently to solve issues through self-directed research and troubleshooting.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications: Project Management certification or equivalent.
Familiarity with business requirements gathering and documentation.
Understanding of user interface/experience principles.
Project portfolio management.
