The Opportunity

The Managing Director, Global Asset Management, is responsible for leading teams to ensure that all acquisition and disposition valuations, third party appraisal reviews, long-term financial plans (LTPs) models for clients, and data analytics for MIM Ag clients are performed on a consistent and reliable basis and to a high standard. The role is responsible for oversight of the portfolio company management function to drive value creation within farmland plus. In addition, this role will develop and establish the data road map to collect, validate and disseminate key platform data used for investment decision-making across three geographies - North and South America, and Australasia. Key deliverables include:

Acquisition and disposition

(DCF) modeling

Third party appraisal review process

Client LTP portfolio modeling

Data strategy and execution (bridge between farm-level and performance-level) Asset Management: (bridge between farm operations and investment platform) enabling the conversion of farm activities into financial and performance outcomes.

Farmland Plus value creation

Implementer of investment parcelization, valuation, and data policies and procedures

MD, Global Asset Manager needs to be a truly authentic, principled and a visible leader. This person will motivate and lead a collaborative, cohesive, efficient team and attract, develop, and retain key leadership talent. This person will also provide mentorship to enhance the strength and capability of the teams to successfully deliver the company's business and investment objectives.

As a face of Manulife Agriculture, the individual will need to be equally comfortable engaging with clients, prospects, Manulife executives, and operating teams, while maintaining consistency of communication and building trust!

How will you create Impact

The MD, Global Asset management reports to the Global Head of Agriculture and is a member of the Manulife IM Agriculture's Investment Committee.

This role collaborates deeply with the AST and its members in the development of the MIM Ag team's presentation internally to Manulife, to the market, client relationships, investment strategies, and portfolio management.

Key responsibilities:

Oversee the investment modeling function that goes into investment committee votes, including assumptions and operating plans. Ensure that assumptions and methodologies are applied consistently across regions and across client entities and ensure that the products are delivered on time and to a high standard. Ensure that changes in value and returns are well understood and clearly articulated.

Liaise closely with Acquisitions & Dispositions, Portfolio Management and Client Services (PMCS) and Farm Management & Operations to ensure all plans and analyses are consistent with overall corporate standards, integrity of the investment process and delivery timetables.

Provide leadership working with farm operations and investment platform regarding data analytics, enabling the conversion of farm activities into financial and performance outcomes.

Capture, retain, analyze, validate and disseminate the various data sources that permeate the MIM Ag business and make it available for use in ongoing operational decisions.

Lead the Portfolio Company Management function within the Farmland Plus initiative to deliver value creation for investments within clients' risk-return objectives, while developing appropriate policy and procedures to strengthen the platform.

Serve as a director on select portfolio companies.

Provide advice, guidance and support to the investment, field, and MFC support teams in the preparation of the various analyses and operating plans to a detailed technical level as required to meet internal and client expectations.

Provide leadership and direction to be an efficient and timely interface with MIMTA's Economic Research Team (ERT) and Agriculture Strategy Team (AST) in the development and application of agricultural commodity price curves. Liaise with ERT to support price forecasting for each region, and the reconciliation and comparison of price forecasts with internal data, views from the field team and other regional experts and appraiser forecasts to understand the value implications of various price forecast assumptions. Work with the Economic Research Team to support the refinement and explanation of price forecasts and their implications in comparison to other forecasts.

Act as a communication bridge and catalyst between modeling groups and continuously look for, recommend and assist in implementing improved and more standardized agricultural modeling systems and processes across the platform.

Lead and build a team of qualified professionals that work collaboratively and synergistically across MIM Ag and MIM TA colleagues.

Liaise with PMCS to drive the implementation and oversee the accountability of risk management tactics at the investment level across the MIM Ag platform and reflective of clients' risk-return objectives .

Lead and/or support various other special projects related to MIM Ag and Private Markets platform as a whole, particularly related to agriculture and investment modeling and strategic growth.

What are we looking for

Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in agricultural management, organization and development, farmland investment planning and analysis, farmland valuation and private equity

Experience in leading multi-disciplined teams and influencing other stakeholders in a corporate setting, with a well-articulated framework for developing teams and individual team members.

Proven experience in leading program to deliver risk adjusted returns in a socially responsible manner.

In-depth knowledge of agriculture issues (e.g. value chains, agriculture trade, sustainable agriculture, agriculture and climate change integration, etc.) and a good network, general knowledge of alternative asset classes and the investment industry a plus

The highest standards of personal and professional ethics and integrity,

Bachelor's degree required; MBA or Masters Degrees in relevant industries preferred. Strong command of accounting and finance preferred.

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Salary range is expected to be between

$174,000.00 USD - $326,000.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
