Glass Roots Construction (GRC) was founded by a team of career telecom and construction professionals and looks to leverage the latest technologies, best in industry equipment, construction and safety practices to build a first-class fiber optic utility construction firm in multiple markets throughout the US. The company has construction projects in CA, CO, and NV.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing all aspects of Glass Roots Construction’s (GRC) construction & engineering operations. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building and leading underground and aerial utility construction teams, with a focus on FTTH and Long-Haul fiber optic networks. This position will have responsibility for all aspects of turnkey engineering, permitting & construction management in the region, including hiring, training, equipment & material procurement, selecting & managing subcontractor partners, health & safety, P&L management, crew production, business development and general day-to-day operations. Travel will be required 75-80% and candidates must either reside in, or be willing to relocate to, one of GRC’s existing markets (NorCal, NV, UT or CO). Reports to GRC’s CEO.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall leadership of engineering & construction, with a focuson crew safety, production and cost management
Hiring& training construction crews, subcontractors and support staff consistentwith project workloads
Assistingwith securing all necessary permitting, bonding, and insurance to meet projectrequirements
Proactivelylooking for possible construction issues and spearheading resolutions
Providingdetailed production forecasts and updates to the GRC project management team
Maintainingaccurate production statuses and statistics in GRC’s proprietary projectmanagement platform
Ensuringcompliance with all environmental, cultural, biological and permit requirements
Acting asa primary point of contact for municipalities, customers, vendors andsubcontractors
Developingcost-effective solutions for traffic control, trenching, hard surfacerestoration, hazmat removal, etc.
Managementof materials and equipment procurement & inventory
Ensuringaccurate and timely billing and payables
Ensuringcompliance with GRC/State/Local/DOT/OSHA health & safety programs
Ensuringcompliance with customer and vendor contractual requirements
Standingup and overseeing emergency and preventative maintenance programs as required
Buildingand managing a robust portfolio of subcontractor partners
AssistingPresident & CEO with proformas and budgets
Assessingand driving new market opportunities and presenting solid leads to thePresident & CEO
Assembling,submitting, and tracking RFPs for new projects
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
10+ years’ experience in telecommunications underground and aerial construction
10+ years’ experience directly building and managing FTTH aerial and underground construction teams
Proven ability to develop and meet production forecasts for complex underground construction projects
Thorough understanding of OSP construction techniques & standards
Ability to manage and command the respect of field construction crews
Ability to work constructively with permitting agencies, DOT/OSHA inspectors and other stakeholders
Strong familiarity with budgeting, forecasting and other construction-relevant financial elements
Must be proficient in, or able to quickly learn, relevant computer/cloud technologies, Google Suite (Sheets, etc.), Google Maps, Google Earth, Microsoft Suite, Project Management Tools, CRM Software, etc.
