Director Growth Marketing - AWAL

Los Angeles, CA, United States

At Sony Music Entertainment, we fuel the creative journey. We’ve played a pioneering role in music history, from the first-ever music label to the invention of the flat disc record. We’ve nurtured some of music’s most iconic artists and produced some of the most influential recordings of all time.

Today, we work in more than 70 countries, supporting a diverse roster of international superstars, developing and independent artists, and visionary creators. From our position at the intersection of music, entertainment, and technology, we bring imagination and expertise to the newest products and platforms, embrace new business models, employ breakthrough tools, and provide powerful insights that help our artists push creative boundaries and reach new audiences. In everything we do, we’re committed to artistic integrity, transparency, and entrepreneurship.

Sony Music Entertainment is a member of the Sony family of global companies.

At AWAL, we are on a mission to partner with independent artists to tell stories that shape culture. We have revolutionized the recording business by putting artists at the center of everything we do and transforming the way they release music. Whether an artist is looking for the best digital distribution or a comprehensive global campaign, AWAL has become the partner of choice for innovative artists at all stages of their careers. The leading artists who have already chosen AWAL include Little Simz, Laufey, Djo, Jungle, JVKE, Tom Misch, JPEGMAFIA, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Freddie Gibbs, and more.

Within the company, AWAL Core is our offering for high-quality artists in the earliest phases of their careers—best-in-class support and technology for independent artists on the rise. Serving as the broadest point of entry for our roster globally, the Core business is critical to our model and a prime area for significant, sustained growth as the music industry continues to evolve.

We’re currently a team of over 160 people based across 13 offices, and we continue to grow. That’s where you come in! If you feel like the fast-paced, rewarding environment of our rapidly growing company is for you—share your story! Apply today and tell us why you are best placed to join our team.

As the Director of Growth Marketing, you will lead the strategy for growing AWAL Core and strengthening our position as a leading partner for independent artists globally. Closely collaborating with AWAL leadership and the Creative Marketing team, you will own the ideation, planning, and execution of strategic marketing initiatives that increase brand awareness amongst exciting new artists and bring them into the AWAL ecosystem. Moreover, you will be a key contributor in some of the company’s priority areas for growth, expanding the AWAL Core roster and supporting international expansion.

Please note that this is not an Artist Marketing role . While you will engage with artists for various initiatives across the company, you will not manage specific artists’ campaigns for their releases. The Director of Growth Marketing will report to AWAL’s Head of Growth (also based in Los Angeles) and focus on initiatives that support the company overall.

What you'll do: Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to attract and convert high-quality artists into actively releasing artists on AWAL globally.

Establish and maintain a strong brand presence within the independent artist community globally, particularly for high-potential artists who are early in their careers.

Collaborate with other executives to align on the brand messaging across channels.

Create and execute marketing campaigns across various channels, including social media, email, and events, to drive artist acquisition and build community.

Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations with complementary partners to align our brand with other artist champions and enhance the value we create for our roster.

Manage the creation of compelling marketing content, including artist success stories, promotional materials, and other assets that showcase the value of AWAL.

Leverage data to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and optimize efforts.

Analyze market trends and artist behavior to evolve strategies and tactics over time.

Who you are: You have a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field (MBA is a plus).

You have 7+ years of experience developing and implementing marketing strategies across various channels with a track record for customer acquisition and brand growth.

You have a curious nature and enjoy a challenge.

You are creative and resourceful in your approach to problem-solving.

You have a high level of attention to detail.

You thrive in dynamic environments and can prioritize effectively.

You are a self-starter and comfortable with ambiguity.

You have a strategic and entrepreneurial mindset.

You are a strong team player with excellent people skills.

You understand the evolving dynamics of the music industry for independent artists.

You love music and are inspired by our mission to partner with independent artists to tell stories that shape culture.

What we give you: You join an inclusive, collaborative and global community where you have the opportunity to fuel the creative journey.

A modern office environment designed to foster productivity, creativity, and teamwork.

Our Hybrid with Flexibility approach combines the flexibility of remote working with the benefits of in-person collaboration whenever we need to come together to do our best work. Managers will partner with their teams and employees to establish work arrangements that meet the business, team, and individual needs.

An attractive and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life & disability coverage, and 401K + employer matching.

Voluntary benefits like company-paid identity theft protection and resources for pets, mental health and meditation resources, industry-leading fertility coverage, fully paid leave for childbirth or bonding, fully paid leave for caregivers, programs for loved ones with developmental disabilities and neurodiversity, subsidized back-up child and elder care, and reimbursement for adoption, surrogacy, tuition and student loans.

We invest in your professional growth & development.

Time off for a winter recess.

Why are you being asked to complete this form? We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp .
