Job Summary

Under the direction of the Medical Director and lead Clinical Supervisor, supervises licensed clinicians and /or counselors providing assessment, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, case management and outreach. A portion of the time may be spend performing individual clinical and administrative tasks including carrying a small caseload, however, supervisory activities constitute the primary part of the job. Clinical Supervisors ensure compliance with UCSF Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and huma) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures. Assists in ensuring the quality of treatment delivery. Assists with quality assurance and reviews clinical documentation for compliance with city, county, state, federal and regulatory requirements. Other supervisory aspects of the role include training, scheduling/assignment of duties, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Department Description

The Division of Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine (DSAAM) provides multi-disciplinary consultation and treatment for patients with substance use disorders at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). DSAAM provides opioid agonist treatment for opioid use disorder through the Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP) at SFGH, a well-established and regarded opioid treatment program.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited university; and minimum three years of experience including one year of supervisory/lead experience and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position or equivalent training/\\experience

Two or more years of clinical experience serving diverse low-income individuals with substance use disorders and severe mental illness.

One or more years experience using electronic health records for behavioral health documentation and billing.

Knowledge and skill in conducting substance use disorders assessments, treatment planning, group and individual counseling, and clinical case management with clients with substance use disorders, severe mental illness, criminal justice involvement, and/or chronic homelessness. Ability to assist staff in managing challenging client interactions with sensitivity and skill. Knowledge of psychiatric and medical terminology.

Demonstrated skills in ensuring that staff consistently meet patient care service standards, and continue in their professional growth. Demonstrated skill in providing constructive feedback to supervisees.

Skilled in engaging, motivating, leading, and collaborating with individuals diverse in gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, education, and social class. Has interpersonal skills that promote effective work and collaboration with individuals of diverse backgrounds in multicultural environments.

Written and spoken communication is clear to people with a variety of perspectives, concise and focused, sufficiently comprehensive, and respectful.

Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and build a cohesive team. Demonstrated ability to anticipate staff shortages and arrange coverage.

Ability to design simple spreadsheets and checklists, set priorities, and complete reports within required time frames.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced settings. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; detail oriented; ability to do accurate work in busy settings with distractions.

Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, select appropriate interventions, and apply effective solutions.

A preliminary job offer may be extended pending successful background clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of regulations pertaining to substance use disorders treatment, and how these differ from other health care settings.

License/Certification

Licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners (LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC)
