This job supports the principal investigator's efforts to examine scientific/medical questions and publish experimental results by overseeing laboratory operations and performing molecular and cellular biological experiments.

Job Duties: Improves and implements a variety of laboratory techniques and contributes to the timely completion of research projects. Assists research technicians and students participating in research in the laboratory. Manages storage of laboratory data and test results for use by the principal investigator. Ensures the delivery of viable clinical specimens to the laboratory and updates the database for research projects. Operates, calibrates, and performs routine maintenance on specialized equipment. Creates figures and data tables for publication of research findings. Participates in meetings with principal investigator to evaluate and interpret the validity of data and evaluate laboratory procedures. Reports any research irregularities or concerns to the principal investigator in a timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. Patient recruitment involving patients in clinical trials. Assists with executing clinical trials in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, including reporting to IRB, and otherwise carrying out the study's procedures. Weekly travel to locations within New Orleans metropolitan area to collect clinical data.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology or Biomedical Sciences.

Experience Required: 36 months as a basic or clinical science research associate.

Other Requirements:

* One year and six months of experience conducting clinical trials with urology devices and drugs, including patient recruitment, use of various electronic data capture systems, institutional review board reporting, and procedures for study startup and study closeout.

* Experience must include conducting clinical trials in multidisciplinary areas.

* Experience must include at least two years of basic science research in a medical field, including grant applicants, conducting experiments, writing papers and other aspects of the scientific process.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.

The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
