We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Genetic Selection Specialist in Illinois, preferably residing in the surrounding communities of Leopold IN, Centralia IL, North Vernon IN, Breese IL, orMukeytown IL. This position is responsible for the selection of our purebred nucleus animals and quality control. The Genetic Selection Specialist will report to the Genetics Selection Supervisor and work closely with their team to complete the selection of nucleus animals.
This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions, but is not limited to:
· Collaborating with internal and external research and operation staff to execute a research plan on time, of high quality, and within budget.
· Leading the collection of data as designated in study protocols, through ultrasound technology.
· Assisting in daily site logistics for all pig and feed movements.
· Performing routine maintenance and validation of research equipment.
· Executing quality management system procedures pertaining to research conduct and ensuring regulatory compliance.
· Driving biological pig performance by learning and executing daily standard operating procedures.
· Participate in on-farm technology evaluations and on-farm process improvements.
· Ensure the responsible use of company resources within the operating budget.
· Participate and adhere to all biosecurity protocols.
· Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate would ideally possess the following experience and qualifications:
· Post-secondary education in Animal Science, Ag. Business, or another related field of study.
· 1+ years of pig production experience (preferred, but not mandatory).
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
· Willing to work in a production facility and walk/stand for long periods.
· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to lift 50 lbs.
· Valid driver's license.
· Willing to travel to AcuFast production facilities as/when required. This position is required to travel to Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin & Canada and will also have overnight travel up to 20-40% of the time which is
an average of 1-2 nights per week but may require more depending on the candidate’s location. A company vehicle will be provided for required travel.
