Overview We are seeking a Prospect Researcher to play a pivotal role in Compassion’s donor research efforts. This analyst will be responsible for providing research, analysis, and insights to inform our fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated experience in prospect research for fundraising initiatives, an understanding of philanthropy, strong analytical skills, and have the ability to guide the donor research team in identifying and engaging potential donors who align with Compassion's mission and objectives.
Please note: This role sits on the Donor Research, Insights, and Reporting team. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about the research element of fundraising and is excited to come alongside our fundraisers as a strategic partner, supporting their initiatives with data, donor insights, and recommendations.
What will you do? Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
Act as an advocate to raise awareness of the needs of children. Understand Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritize child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur.
Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors .
Conduct comprehensive research on mid-level, athlete, and corporate gift prospects, analyzing philanthropic history, financial capacity, interests, connections, and giving patterns.
Collaborate with fundraising leadership to prioritize donor prospects for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Provide research reports and profiles on higher-level donors, delivering insights and recommendations that inform fundraising strategies and donor engagement plans.
Stay abreast of industry trends, philanthropic developments, and changes in the donor landscape, and share relevant insights with the fundraising team.
Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and confidentiality protocols related to donor research and data management.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's donor database and prospect management systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate donor research insights into broader fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
What will you bring? Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent education, training and/or certification
Demonstrated experience in donor research, prospect research, or related roles within the nonprofit, fundraising, or development sectors.
Ability to utilize a wide range of online databases, research tools, and resources to conduct prospect research and analysis.
Solid analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and provide actionable insights.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate research findings effectively to diverse audiences.
Proficiency in donor management software and wealth screening tools (e.g., WealthEngine, Salesforce, or comparable CRM tool)
Familiarity with data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Excel).
High level of integrity and ethical conduct in handling sensitive donor information and maintaining confidentiality.
Demonstrated commitment to staying current with industry trends, philanthropic developments, and best practices in donor research.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across different departments.
Travel Requirements : May be required to travel up to 10% of normal schedule.
