The Batten Group - Director of Corporate Engagement

In coordination with the Senior Director of Corporate Engagement, additional Directors, and the Chief Development Officer, this position helps plan and implement American Kidney Fund's national corporate development efforts utilizing a moves management system to identify, cultivate, and secure major corporate and corporate foundation gifts, with an emphasis on identifying new donors and renewing and upgrading existing donors. This position will manage a working portfolio of prospects with a predetermined financial goal. The position will also be responsible for securing national corporate sponsorship for AKF's three above-brand initiatives and two special events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manages a portfolio of corporate partners made up of current funders and qualified prospects in pursuit of support for partner-funded activities and sponsorships on behalf of the American Kidney Fund national office.

Integrates a moves-management system across all prospects to ensure donor follow-through, prospect development, and closing gifts.

Helps lead the Corporate Development team in managing solicitations for AKF's signature annual gala, The Hope Affair.

Collaborates across AKF departments to develop proposals in concert with Education and Marketing colleagues, manage project deliverables, and lead sponsor engagement. Works with the Development, Programs, and Communications teams to foster cross-departmental collaborations and development initiatives.

Supports the Senior Director of Corporate Engagement and the Chief Development Officer in high-level asks for sponsorship and funding of programs, services, and special events.

Manages a portfolio of 30-40 corporate prospects for restricted and unrestricted giving consistent with the goals of the strategic plan and utilizes the portfolio as a platform for meeting donor interests and aspirations.

Maximizes funding opportunities with current major contributors and personally identifies new prospective funders and partners to build relationships and close gifts.

Travels up to 20% of the time to build relations with contributors in person.

Provides regular reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Engagement on the corporate philanthropic landscape and feasibility of restricted giving opportunities, including programmatic plans.

Maintains current knowledge about charitable giving techniques.

Functions equally effectively in an in-office or remote/virtual office setting.

Undertakes other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the Development Office.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. 4-6 years of progressive fundraising experience, including demonstrated success in face-to-face fundraising and major corporate gift solicitation, closing gifts of $50,000 or more. Demonstrated success in fundraising, negotiation, cultivation, and stewardship of contributors. Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment while proactively pursuing individual portfolios. Ability to think entrepreneurially while following outlined directives. Understanding of complex, complicated organizational structures. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize and handle a number of projects simultaneously and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to handle confidential matters with a high level of integrity. Knowledge of healthcare funding to non-profit organizations a plus. Interest in the health and patient-sector environment preferred. Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office. Proficient use of Raiser's Edge or comparable database preferred. Ability to work some weekends and evenings as required. Travel required.

AKF offers a hybrid work schedule with employees working in the office 1-4 days per month and teleworking the rest of the time.
