Outreach Coordinator

Overview:

Overview of Job Function:

The Outreach Coordinator works closely with program staff to provide hands-on, patient-focused support related to clinical research efforts at the National institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Patient support efforts will focus on, but are not limited to, underrepresented populations such as low-income individuals, recent immigrants, and racial and ethnic minorities.

Essential Functions:

Communicate with NIH study coordinators and case managers regarding patients needs related to transportation, interpretation, and support

Call patients to remind them of upcoming appointments at NIH

Communicate with transportation vendors to facilitate patient appointments

Meet patients at NIH and escort to their appointments

Serve as patient liaison, interpreter, and translator at NIH

Organize community forums and support groups

Update secure database of patient records and study information

Education and Experience :

High school graduate with relevant work experience or bachelor's degree in healthcare, health administration, community outreach, or related field of study

3 years previous administrative experience in a medical office, health clinic, or community services agency

Experience in the areas of community work, community outreach, medical interpretation, and/or case management

Familiarity with patient scheduling and medical terminology

Experience working with patients living with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases is a plus.

Cultural competence and adept understanding of underrepresented minority populations and related barriers to receiving or accepting healthcare services

Fluent bilingual skills Spanish (required), French and/or Amharic a plus

Exceptional organization and time management ability

Good problem solving, decision making, conflict management and resolution skills

Proactively recognizes needs and implements effective solutions

Outstanding written and verbal communication

Good driving record and reliable transportation to and from NIH

A flexible schedule as needed

Managerial Responsibilities: None

Work Environment: Mostly on-site at the National Institutes of Health. Some weekly remote work as necessary. Availability by phone/text. The standard office equipment for this position is a laptop computer and mobile device (provided).

Physical Demands: The essential functions of this require moderate periods of walking, standing, and sitting. Good vision, mental quickness, eye and hand coordination, ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Project Director

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a Part-time position with hours that may range from 15-30 hours per week. Standard hours fall within 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some flexibility to start earlier or work later to meet specific patient or clinical staff needs.

Travel : Local travel to NIH and community events.

The range below represents the low and high end of the base salary someone in this role may earn as an employee of an Omnicom Health Group company in the United States. Salaries will vary based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience, training, associated responsibilities, and other business and organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Salary decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire.

Hourly rate: up to $25-30/hr
