Section I. General Overview & Reporting:
The Manufacturing and Safety Engineer is responsible for providing support to the assembly and fabrication areas to maximize the use of resources and achieve the highest levels of safety and efficiency. This role will use experience and knowledge to propose and implement best practices in assembly and fabrication departments. This position is exempt and reports to the Director of OPEX and Engineering.
Section II. Duties & Areas of Responsibility:
The primary duties of the Manufacturing and Safety Engineer consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Manufacturing - Automation Identify and implement opportunities within the facility to incorporate manufacturing improvements, automation, and AI especially if it improves safety.
Identify and implement process improvements as it relates to fabrication and assembly.
Prioritize and justify cost savings (ROI), along with time frame on all improvement projects.
Work with leads and managers to develop the plans for improvements.
Manufacturing - Safety Inspect Work Cells for potential hazards, and work with Maintenance and / or the personnel of the Work Cell to fix or identify issues.
Ensure travel lanes in warehouse are clear of obstructions / floor debris for safe pedestrian and power truck usage.
Enforce use of PPE as required in different areas of the company, report insubordination to your direct supervisor or HR.
Consult with Contracted Maintenance (forklift, plumbing, electrical, etc) to ensure work is performed safely, area is blocked off and finished work is inspected / tested.
Enforce use of Lockout / Tagout for maintenance or on defective equipment.
Work with Senior Management to create Emergency Action Plans for different contingencies (Fire, Tornado, Flood, Electrical, etc).
Accident investigation to determine root cause, and secondary factors that may have increased likelihood of issues or increased intensity / damage.
Submit reports / plans detailing how to safeguard to prevent repeat incidents.
Manufacturing - Design Perform Design work and needed to support the Engineering department based on workloads and needs.
Assist Designers with projects especially with regard to Safety considerations that should go into designs.
Health & Safety
Adhere to all health & safety policies and practices, including wearing proper PPE at all times.
Actively follow a "safety first" culture with a "zero accidents" goal
Exercise caution and awareness around forklifts.
Ensure work zones are tidy, clutter and obstacle free.
Identify safety risks in the work area and advise management.
Help to identify resolutions to safety concerns & participate in implementation, as requested.
Immediately notify management or HR of any safety incidences (accidents, or near misses)
Pandemic or other health concerns protocol: Before shift start, take temperature, and if temp is over defined maximum, follow company protocol (advise supervisor, answer related questions, leave the premises, get tested as required)
Follow social distancing (work, break, common areas, etc.)
Ensure all shift end cleaning is completed (work areas and tools cleaned and sanitized)
Additional Duties: Other duties, as assigned by the Director of OPEX, EHS, and Engineering
Section III: Necessary Skills and Attributes:
S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent).
Lean Tools knowledge (Green Belt Certification preferred).
Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred (but a recent graduate will be considered).
Project Managements skills are a plus.
Good communication and Interpersonal skills.
Bi-lingual is a plus (English & Spanish).
CAD Experience, SolidWorks knowledge preferred.
Proficient in MS Office Tools (Excel Analysis and Power Point presentation skills).
Section IV: Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment (exposure to heat, cold, dust, etc.).
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Visual acuity required to read instructions, operate hand tools, written documents, inspect materials, products, etc...
Must be able to work standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and in squatting position.
Manual dexterity is required to operate hand tools, assemble products, handle materials, supplies, etc.
