About the Role
The Company is seeking a Head of Underwriting to elevate their underwriting processes and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert-level underwriting and portfolio management, ensuring that these activities are in line with strategic partnerships and sponsor banks. This role demands a leader who can make sound credit decisions, adhere to policies and procedures, and meet SLAs, while also having the authority to interpret and decide on merchant account acceptance. The Head of Underwriting will also serve as an escalation point for enhanced due diligence and designated authorities within the organization.Applicants must approach underwriting with a business-friendly mindset, while also maintaining strict adherence to all policies and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include establishing and improving credit policies and procedures for traditional and high-risk merchants, enhancing reporting on credit decisions and employee performance, and mentoring and managing the credit underwriting department. The role requires a candidate with a background in risk management within the payments or fintech industry, direct experience with merchant underwriting, the ability to analyze financial statements, and a strong track record in managing and developing high-performing teams. Experience with card brand rules and the ability to negotiate on approvals and cures are also essential.
