Granular Insurance is a subsidiary of Verily. Granular's mission is to empower self-funded employers to better manage their health risk with its innovative and data-driven Precision Risk platform of solutions. Granular's Precision Risk delivers better health outcomes and meaningful, long-term financial predictability via more precise underwriting, risk segmentation, and actionable insights into cost drivers.

As an Underwriting Manager, you will lead a team of underwriters, establish guidelines and procedures in order to leverage Granular's precision risk solution to provide self-funded employers with more predictable benefit plan protection. You are a builder, able to plan strategically for the benefit of the business and you thrive in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

* Manage, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.* Evaluate client data for the determination of rates for Granular's insurance products in a manner that is consistent with guidelines and sound actuarial principles.* Direct involvement with designing and developing custom reporting that the client may require with the ability to monitor congruence of underwriting performance with Company business plan and budgetary goals.* Develop key underwriting processes and direct implementation of such processes within the company or within the context of affiliated organizations.* Organize a cohesive underwriting response to complex cases displaying quantitative insight into recommended effects on pricing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* 3-5 years experience in a managerial role.* 5-7 years experience as a health insurance underwriter either in primary health insurance or employer stop loss underwriting combined with a proven track record of underwriting innovation.* Undergraduate degree required with course emphasis in insurance management or mathematics, statistics or quantitative science.* Deep understanding of insurance benefit pricing mechanisms, use of rating models for provisioning rates and commercial insurance landscape including but not limited the roles of sales, brokers, advisors, employers and regulators.

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous experience leading program innovation as well as executing fundamental requirements along with policy and endorsement form development.* Understanding and key elements of client data reporting both in its creation and explanation to clients.* Experience with reinsurance contracts, claims reporting review and manipulating large data sets for proper entry into designated rating model.* Understanding of critical SLAs within the insurance industry for key functions and the effect these may have on rating.* Providing rationale for pricing decisions to other company employees or directly to client, broker or client advisors.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000 - $135,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
