Summary:

The Library Intern is an opportunity for Duchesne students to contribute their talents to our school. Student Library Intern positions provide an opportunity for currently enrolled students to contribute their talents to our school during the school year and are employed from 7:00 - 7:45 a.m. and 3:45 to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

Student assistants are members of the Upper School community who are often planning to be on campus early and/or until 5 and/or have expressed an interest in working in the library. They must be responsible for the facility and the behavior that occurs in the facility for times when the librarians are not there, so it is imperative that they be mature enough to uphold the job expectations, as well as the tasks associated with their position.

Student interns shelve returned books after they have been checked in thru the computer and check out materials that students may need. Accuracy is very important. They also assist the librarians in cataloging, processing, and covering new assets, creating displays for the library space to promote reading, and assist the librarians with inventory. They must follow the rules of confidentiality and not reveal any information about who has checked out what materials. They must comply with the rules of any job, including informing the librarians well ahead when they cannot work, filling out their timesheet accurately, and wearing their uniform neatly.

Student Interns are not expected to discipline students and are instructed to inform the Head of Upper School or the Dean of Students if they need help, should any situation arise.

Primary Responsibilities:

The student interns will be responsible for enforcing the following code of behavior so that the atmosphere of the Library is conducive to study and learning:

•Work the circulation desk using proper service etiquette with patrons

•Record any reference questions for the Librarians to answer the next day if you are not able to successfully assist the student

•Open the Library each morning including logging into the circulation desk computer, the OPAC computers, and the TV Kiosk

•Carry out the closing routines for the Library which include shutdown of the circulation desk and OPAC computers, make sure the Library is in orderly condition and if there are no students remaining turn off the lights

•Keep information such as Library passwords and student information secure and confidential

•Shelve materials which have been returned or left on table

Requirements

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

In the performance of his/her duties, Employee shall be guided by the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Faith. Candidates must also possess:

•Ability to communicate with students, parents and other staff members

•Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks (18 years or older)

•Adherence to all personnel policies, procedures, and rules contained in the Duchesne Employee Handbook
