Job Summary
The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Foundation and Gov't Relations, with direction and support from the Executive Director, to create and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that furthers Outdoor Outreach's short and long-term goals including public policy priorities. This includes strategies for cultivating relationships with key decision makers that support fundraising targets for foundation, corporate, government, civic, and individual donors. The Director of Community Engagement will have primary responsibility for individual giving campaigns, carrying out stewardship and fundraising events, and overseeing the sharing of organizational impact through communication and branding efforts. They will play a key role in creating opportunities for staff across the organization to connect to organizational impact and cultivate strong community partnerships. The director will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of community partners, donors, and prospects. The director will support the board of directors through the Development and Communications Committee to further the organization's advancement strategy.

Competencies
Community builder: develop and cultivate authentic relationships with internal and external organizational stakeholders to further the mission, vision and values of Outdoor Outreach; includes prospecting, engaging and cultivating individual and institutional decision makers and donors including foundations, corporate, government agencies, and elected officials.
Develop cases for support based on community need and aligned with organizational and programmatic strategies
Engage staff, youth participants and community partners in creating and disseminating compelling stories of impact rooted in the principles of ethical storytelling
Contribute to grant proposals and reports that communicate the organization's mission, programs, and community impact
Oversee biannual giving campaigns (currently: Summer Appeal and Year End Ask)
Oversee the planning, evaluation, and execution of community events and annual gala (Lead the Way)
Oversee execution of marketing and communications vision and strategy to reflect organizational impact, brand and values; this includes donor communications, website and social media
Support the organization's annual fund plan, including revenue projections.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
The job operates in a hybrid environment, combining in-person and virtual/remote work settings. While much of the work can be conducted remotely, regular attendance at events in San Diego is required. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners are routinely used in this role. Reasonable accommodations and adaptations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
5+ years demonstrated experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and communications/marketing;
Knowledge of San Diego's philanthropic environment
Competent with donor research and donor management software
Competent in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications;
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and TB test. Criminal history record infractions will be considered on a case by case basis.
