JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, performs electrical work including the installation and repair of wiring and electrical fixtures in and around city facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to repair building electrical switch gear, circuit breaker panels, fuse boxes and other major electrical components.
2. Ability to install conduit, wiring, junction boxes, switches, receptacles and other equipment and parts necessary to provide operational capability to city building environments.
3. Ability to perform routine inspection and repair all electrical and mechanical equipment. (i.e. pumps, motors, wiring, lighting, heating, and air conditioning controls).
4. Ability to troubleshoot electrical control and motor control circuits for component failure and identify and replace failed electrical components in those circuits.
5. Ability to communicate with employees in other departments regarding malfunctioning equipment.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
6. Ability to prepare materials lists and order parts from vendors in person or by telephone.
7. Ability to read and examine blueprints and wiring diagrams to determine locations of electrical components, equipment and fixtures.
8. Ability to observe function of installed equipment and detect electrical or safety hazard or need for adjustment.
9. Ability to perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of National Electric Code.
* Knowledge of the theory, practice, equipment, and material used in electrical trade.
* Knowledge of the rules and standards pertaining to the electrical construction and the maintenance of electrical equipment.
* Skill in troubleshooting electrical circuitry.
* Skill in reading electrical schematics and blueprints.
* Skill in communicating with other city employees and vendors by oral and written means.
* Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
* Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, climbing, kneeling, standing and writing.
* Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 60 pounds.
* Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
* Ability to operate a variety of electrical trade equipment.
* Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
* Ability to work at elevated heights, including on ladders and lift equipment.
* Incumbent is subject to fume/odor, dust/mites, mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
A high school education and a minimum of two years experience as an electrician. Possession of a valid Operator's License, Class C. Possession of a current Journeyman Electrical License. Pre-employment testing includes comprehensive criminal and CJIS background checks, Drug/Alcohol testing, Physical and Motor Vehicle Review.
