About the Role
We are seeking a Health Communication Specialist I to support our Federal Government customer (Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) at CDC). This role will be responsible for providing support to ensure a strong communications infrastructure, focusing on division priority communication projects that build internal and external communications capacity.
This is a fully remote role that can be based in Atlanta, GA or anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
Maintains and distributes an editorial calendar, works collaboratively with client forecasting portal manager and communications staff to ensure that the calendar is updated on a regular basis to reflect communication priorities.
Maintains the communications training calendar and communication and works collaboratively with management staff to schedule and procure approved communication trainings.
Maintains and updates communications guidance and work with the communications team lead to develop new guidance based on staff needs; ensures resources are easily accessible in SharePoint and other repositories.
Manages the communications team logo review process, follows existing guidance and works with the team lead and the agency and center liaison(s) to ensure appropriate logo use.
Provides health communication campaign support, working collaboratively ensure that deliverables are met and requests are handled in a timely manner.
Participates in rollout and other communication priority projects development and take direction from rollout lead in support of the rollout.
Provides support for other emerging division priority communications projects.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in health communication, including writing, reviewing, and editing materials.
Experience in federal government communication best practices preferred, to include 508 compliance, Digital First, standards, branding and logo requirements, and other existing guidelines and standards for government communication.
Strong health communications skills, with the ability to synthesize and distill information into key points and write in plain language.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Previous health communication experience supporting the Federal Government or other large organization preferred.
Ability to obtain government clearance.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in communications (journalism, advertising, public relations), English (writing/editing), public health or related field is required.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
