PTI is seeking an experienced controls engineer interested in systems engineering ranging from analog-digital sensory measurement to complex automation projects. The role is in constant collaboration within the controls team as well as between mechanical, software & research engineering.
PTI is an equipment manufacturer that engages in both standard bench-top inspection solutions as well as large scale custom automated systems. The primary focus of the position is to ensure the measurement accuracy of the system, reliable operation through controls systems design, and developing efficient user interactions with the equipment through HMI’s and other graphical means. A secondary focus is on the development of sensory technologies and how they apply to package inspection.
The role is positioned on PTI’s R&D team, focused on the development of new applications and custom engineering to help support the food, medical device, and pharmaceutical industries with leading edge engineering and a focus on critical packaging applications.
The employee will be responsible for designing, selecting, and implementing components and developing the logic for PTI’s proprietary technologies. The position will be responsible for programming, documenting, training and release testing of finalized technologies to the various industries PTI supports.
Some travel, both domestic and international, is expected. This is an on-site full time position.
Minimum Requirements:
2+ years of job experience as a controls engineer
Must have legal permission to work in the U.S. and have a valid passport
PLC & HMI programming “from scratch” capability and debugging other’s code on Beckhoff Control Systems
Programming robots and/or vision systems
Designing control systems
Experience with selecting and integrating sensors and actuators into the controls architecture
Expertise in using various communication protocols to integrate/network between controls systems
Experience with project releases, installation and commissioning
Has in field experience installing and debugging a few PLC systems
Is comfortable reading and debugging electrical schematics and panels
Working well with a team of controls engineers and/or mentoring
Has basic mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge as it applies to controls engineering
Additional considerations:
B.S degree or greater in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or a related field
Knowledge of data integrity and experience with 21CFR part 11
Experience with Servo motors, Stepper Motors, HMIs
Experience with working on:
- Control systems from SAIA Burgess Controls, Allen Bradley& Automation Direct.
- Robotic systems from Staubli & Yaskawa
- Vision Systems from Cognex & Keyence
- Festo pneumatic smart controllers & Schneider Lexium Drives
Programming for a capital equipment business
Is familiar with analog and digital signal processing, math & statistics
Writing structured, well documented, “bug-free”, PLC code in any of the five International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) standard languages (Ladder Diagram (LD), Instruction List (IL), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Structured Text (ST) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC))
Multi-lingual
Experience with software version control & management.
