Assistant Language Arts Department Head - High School
Job Type: Full-time
Description Landmark High School is seeking an Assistant Language Arts (LA) Department Head. This position will be responsible for the following skills and tasks and will work in concert with and report to the Language Arts Department Head and Academic Deans:
Address Student Needs
Assist in the (LA) student scheduling process
Read student files to understand specific individual profiles and student needs
Be available to address student or teacher issues that may arise in any science class
Aid faculty in dealing with academic and behavioral issues within their classes with the support of the Department Head & Academic Advisors
Communication
Communicate student or faculty concerns from LA faculty to Department Head, Academic Advisors, Administrators, Counseling Dept., Health Center and/or Student Life Department
Assist with weekly student updates
Faculty Supervision
Assist with training new teachers in the department
Help perform faculty class observations, conduct follow-up meetings, and write teacher evaluations
Be available to attend interdepartmental and middle manager meetings
Assist with running department meetings & selected training workshops
Assist in creating department workshop materials and curriculum development as appropriate
Assist in reviewing trimester progress reports
Student Life Coverage & Teaching
Dormitory coverage commensurate with middle-management level position and years of service.
Milkbreak and lunch coverage as assigned.
Teach 3 classes within the LA Department
Requirements Masters Degree in Special Education or a closely related field, and licensure as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (formerly Special Needs) 5-12 in Massachusetts preferred.
Candidates must be thoroughly familiar with Landmark’s program and student profile, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
