Transformed from a 1930s ultra-modern motor court, Hotel San Jos is a 40-room urban bungalow-style hotel situated behind stucco walls amidst lush garden courtyards located on South Congress Avenue. Known as the quintessential Austin hotel experience, San Jos serves as a gathering place and community activity hub for locals and visitors alike with unique event programming (such the annual South x San Jose and Pet Parade) and nearby Jos Coffee Lamberts local coffee purveyor and coveted people-watching spot.
Operating as a motel since 1938, Austin Motel is a beloved, quintessential part of the citys history, sitting in the heart of South Congress famed strip of restaurants, clubs, and shops. The 1930s motor court property includes 41 guest rooms, a 50's-style outdoor pool and sun deck, community and cultural programming and a renegade-style retail shop to the lobby, all set amidst the original midcentury architecture.

We're looking for someone with:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree preferred
Five (5) years related experience in hospitality or service industry
Passion for hospitality
Experience and interest in developing staff
Attention to detail
Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as an example for staff by adhering to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction
Perform personnel actions such as hiring and firing staff, consulting with other managers and HR as necessary
Demonstrate a working understanding of labor cost control through effective scheduling and proactive management
Work closely with Bunkhouse HR department to maintain awareness of documentation needed and retained in employee files
Administrative duties including purchasing, inventory, accounts payable, payroll, Workers Compensation Claims and guest injury claims
Support Front Office as necessary, including response to overnight calls
Develop departmental objectives, budgets, policies, procedures, and strategies
Analyze operational problems, such as theft and wastage, and establish procedures to alleviate these problems
Train and supervise staff, including holding staff accountable for performance through regular evaluations
Implement inventory standards and procedures to consistently conduct an accurate inventory
Demonstrate a working understanding of labor cost control through effective scheduling and proactive management
Ensure adequate department manager training including injury and incident reports, labor cost and scheduling as it relates to their role
Oversee management and supervision of bar, kitchen, room service, banquet and catering
Support sales and operations of private events and outside catering functions
Meet with sales representatives in order to negotiate prices and order supplies
Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs, in coordination with Repairs & Maintenance team
Ensure each head of department resolves customer complaints effectively and efficiently, per hotel policies and assist as necessary
Ensure all employees adhere to dress code policies for their scheduled shift
Monitor employee and guest activities to ensure liquor regulations are obeyed
Assist in development and implementation of special projects
Maintain thorough understanding of Property Management System
Ensure guests receive indulgent service in the lounge by upholding product knowledge and service standards
Ensure open lines of communication with staff, all departments and upper management via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are met
Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation and serving, and building maintenance in lodging and dining facilities
Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
