POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the coordination of all operational aspects dealing with container vessels working at Jacintoport. This would include all communications with ship's officers and crew, agents, and stevedores. This position will work with voyage planning, preparation of load/discharge plans, stowage, and port operations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Must have a minimum (4) four years' experience stowing vessels with containerized and break bulk cargoes
Must have a minimum of (2) two years supervisory experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
Must have basic knowledge utilizing two-way hand held radio
Must be able to lead others and participate as team player when needed and as appropriate
Must have Assertive individual with excellent interpersonal skills
Must be able to read and write English at a basic level in a business environment
Must have strong organizational and time management skills
Must have the ability to prioritize
Must be able to communicate in an industrial environment
Must have the ability to work with individually and with limited supervision and strong initiative
Must be able to work multiple operations and work as needed (nights, weekends, holidays)
Ability to think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions
Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed
Preferred
Marine Academy Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Administration, Transportation or directly related discipline
Hazmat certified highly desirable
Familiarization with OSHA regulations desired
Intermediate skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience in AS-400 system is a plus
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
Perform all functions in accordance with operation and safety guidelines
Supervises operations and the employees assigned to the respective vessel(s)
Communicates with and coordinates required labor with labor supervisor
Regularly updates and reports operation status to Stevedoring Manager
Communicates with ship officers, Stevedoring manager and shore personnel to ensure efficiencies on work flow
Assists in analyzing workload of all areas and assign or reassign personnel as needed.
Keeps Stevedoring Manager abreast of any safety infractions/accidents.
Monitor and notify department Supervisors of any issues affecting production as well as hazards or housekeeping issues
Assists in maintaining work procedures ensuring that employees follow procedures and prioritize the workload according to operations.
Identify and prevent waste regarding equipment and materials/consumables used in daily operations.
Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people, equipment, etc.) at all times
Secondary
Prepares load and discharge plans for general, break bulk, and container cargos
Acts as liaison between corporate and local offices and operations
Addresses employee disciplinary issues
Resolves conflicts and differences in a positive and effective manner
Perform other related tasks as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment
Ability to follow procedures and instructions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.
The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear.
The employee is continuously required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direct supervision from the JPI Stevedoring Manager. Exercises direct supervision over the supervisors, clerks, operators, and yard trucks laborers, to include all personal involved in the working of these vessels.
CONDITIONS:
Outdoors exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts
The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
