Job Responsibilities
This Access Specialist works in a clinical specialty area of Riverview Health. The Access Specialist greets patients, responds to phone calls, and checks patients in and out of the office. The position maintains accurate financial and patient records and schedules referral appointments as required.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop a robust understanding of the medical area assigned applying specialized system knowledge necessary for supporting the organization.
Answering the telephone, schedule appointments and greet patients providing excellent customer service.
Verify eligibility for insurance coverage on-line or via telephone for scheduled procedures. Ensure proper billing, eligibility and utilization for Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurances via on-line and/or telephone. Update and complete demographic and insurance information and accurately enter information into the billing system.
Obtain Pre-certification and/or authorization from provider offices or insurance companies for scheduled testing and procedures as needed.
Schedule and register all ordered lab and Radiology services in Hospital Outpatient System.
Document patient phone messages accurately. Obtain necessary registration documents. Register and update demographic and insurance info. Update the patient's electronic medical record and maintain records as required to meet compliances. Communicate necessary information.
Receive and process payments from patients for professional services. File medical record documents and maintain medical records. Assume information management responsibilities.
Communicate changes in patient condition to the physician.
Notify management of changes in workload to maximize productivity.
Interact appropriately, professionally and compassionately with patients, patient families, co-workers, other physician offices, hospital department personnel and all other entities.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements: Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Specialized Training in office administrative skills such as computers, software, and data entry.
Experience Requirements: Minimum: Previous Customer Service experience
Preferred: Two (2) years' experience in a healthcare setting performing related tasks.
