Vice President of Accounting

POSITION SUMMARY
The VP of Accounting oversees all operations of the organization’s Accounting department to ensure the business is operating effectively and efficiently. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and management of a comprehensive set of controls, budgets, and forecasting. This individual will ensure that reports are designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s financial results, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
TASKS
Monitor the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations or entities, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies
Work with CPA firm on strategic planning from a sales tax standpoint for states we conduct business in
Oversee the operations of the accounting department (Director of Accounting, AR/AP..etc), including working with the CFO on the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
Income tax planning for Co-Founders; respond to tax authority inquiries, notices and tax related research
Oversee payroll & benefits team to ensure everything is processed for multi-entities
Oversee and ensure accuracy of year-end reporting, financial statements, and reconciliations for a certified public accountant (CPA) firm, for tax-return preparation
Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations or entities, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies
Ensure preparations are made for the company's audit (if applicable) and tax preparation by coordinating with external professionals as necessary
SKILLS
Highly proficient with word processing and spreadsheets in order to create complex formulas
Possess expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Has experience managing audits & other external service providers
Proficiency with QuickBooks/NetSuite in order to automate reporting and processing
Working knowledge of inter-company/subsidiary relationships and applicable accounting treatment
Ability to research and apply complex accounting standards
Knowledge of investment company and corporate accounting
Working knowledge of taxation and corporate structures
Ability to plan and allocate cash according to organizational priorities
Knowledge of new state and federal regulations
Ability to forecast department financial needs based on current and future priorities
Knowledge of multistate payroll and multistate 1099 contractor regulations
Ability to accurately track budget expenses and find potential discrepancies
Demonstrates strong aptitude for auditing, accounting, and corporate financing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance or equivalent business experience
At least 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial-management practices
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
