Job Title: Program Director Department: Aquatics

Reports to: Sr. Program Director/CEO

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Director at Greater Lowell Family YMCA oversees the development and operations of their assigned department, such as health and wellness, aquatics, camp, school age, preschool, youth, and/or other programs. They will also design practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Manages aquatic programs, complying with all organization standards and safety procedures. One indoor pool and six seasonal outdoor pools.

•Hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers for all aquatic programs.

•Develops, manages, and monitors aquatic department budget. Assesses and recommends budgeting for facility and equipment needs.

•Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign, and other volunteer committees as assigned.

•Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate program information in order to promote aquatic programs to the public and to current members.

•Coordinates all aquatic rentals.

•Acts as staff liaison to Y Swim Team and High School Swim Team Coaches.

•Ensures that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.

•Collaborate with community agencies including schools, local/county governments.

•Be available to work hands-on in aquatic programs as needed.

•Provides data and reports on assigned programs in a timely fashion as requested.

•Assists in supervision and development of special events @ the Y.

•Represents the YMCA at various community meetings as requested.

•Attends all staff meetings and trainings required.

•Assume general building/administrative duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Minimum age of 21.

•Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

•Two years related experience preferred.

•Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to maintain harmonious relationships with staff members, volunteers, program participants and the general public.

•Skills in administration, marketing, staff supervision, member & volunteer development, and fiscal management preferred.

•Ability to handle multiple tasks and be creative, motivated, self-starter with the ability to lead and motivate others.

•Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

•YMCA Team Leader certification preferred. Will be required after hire.

•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

•The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Requirements

•Bachelor's degree preferred; sports management, recreation management or related field of study preferred.

•Minimum 2 years' experience in staff supervision and leadership required.

•Minimum 2 years' experience in aquatics or customer service related field strongly preferred.

•YMCA aquatics or operations experience highly preferred.

•Microsoft Office proficiency required; Daxko systems experience a plus.

•Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certifications required.

•Current Lifeguard certification required.

•Current Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire.

•Current ARC Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus.
