The University System of Maryland Office ( USMO ), led by Chancellor Jay A. Perman, is the staff to the Board of Regents. Staff members advocate on behalf of the 12 USM institutions, facilitate collaboration and efficiencies among the institutions, and provide information about the system to the public. With leadership from the USM Board of Regents and Chancellor Perman, the USMO coordinates academic programs, assists with long-range planning and resource management, facilitates private fund raising, and provides financial stewardship.

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is located in Adelphi, MD. The Accountant provides basic accounting support for fundamental business operations of the University System of Maryland Administrative Office ( USMO ) and assists in the accumulation and compilation of financial information of the various Institutions comprising the University System of Maryland ( USM ), in accordance with identified external and internal constraints and guidance.
Responsibilities
Provides accounting for the USMO fixed asset inventory, ensuring USMO compliance with all aspects of the Policy on Equipment Control and preparing a semi-annual schedule of changes in Fixed Assets used in the preparation of the USMO’s interim and annual audited financial statements.
Provides accounting assistance and support in the periodic preparation of the USMO and USM financial statements and other periodic and ad-hoc financial reporting needs.
Provides accounting and other administrative support associated with the USM’s endowment funds, known as the Common Trust Fund.
Provides basic accounting, tracking, and coordination functions including inter-institutional billing, preparing invoices, and following up on collections.
Conducts Affiliated Foundation Financial and Compliance Reporting – reviews documentation provided, maintains checklist, and follows up on required reports.
Processes cash receipts and expense reports, monitors cellphone accounts, assists with annual reporting to the Department of Education, and serves as back-up for debt management accountant.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Accounting degree, CPA , or eligible to sit for CPA exam.
Experience: At least 1 year of work experience in accounting or audit. Must have financial reporting experience either with a public accounting firm or in a corporate environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and experience with Microsoft Office.
