Director of Alumni Relations

The Director is charged with meeting alumni engagement goals and managing related events. The Alumni Relations Director reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement and works closely with Development staff in supporting school-wide development initiatives and special events.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Engagement and Stewardship:

Plan, assist, attend, and support regional, local, and on-site alumni engagement events (e.g., homecoming, reunions, etc.)

Ability to travel 15% of the time to visit alumni and host regional alumni events

Develop and expand affinity and young alumni programming

Engage and coordinate faculty and staff participation in alumni events (reunions, regional travel, etc.)

Assist with effective stewardship and recognition of individual donors, including print and electronic recognition, events, and personalized stewardship

Oversee and execute a robust reunion engagement program; assist Development officers with a reunion-giving program

Oversee and manage alumni recognition awards (i.e., athletic, art, and distinguished alumni awards), ceremonies, and events

Fundraising: Work closely with the Development team to strategize, and help organize annual alumni giving programs and campaigns

Identify, cultivate, and steward individual alumni donors in conjunction with the Development Officers

Assist in creating and executing digital annual giving appeals using multi-media platforms

Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with alumni giving programs and campaigns

Work with Development officers to oversee, manage, and execute the senior class-giving program

Communications: Maintain a communication strategy in collaboration with the communication office to ensure that alumni are informed and connected

Curate and manage the Alumni e-newsletter, alumni pages of the TorchBearer Magazine (i.e., class notes and profiles), and the School's website

Database and reporting: Update and manage all alumni dashboards; ability to run reports, manage data, and ensure data accuracy

Work collaboratively with the Director of Advancement Services to update alumni records on the database and the portal, and to track all volunteer activities and attendance

Use outside databases (e.g., GiveCampus, LinkedIn) to gather data and support engagement and annual giving efforts.

Ensure constituent records are up to date and have all the correct biographical and gift information

Staff Support: Staff the Alumni Board by providing exceptional and timely materials, resources, and support

Attend all Advancement events; help to ensure successful execution of events and engagement activities

Attend select School-wide events to meet and interact with community members

Will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holiday weekends as needed

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in non-profit volunteer management and event planning

Breadth of knowledge of annual giving programs and strategies

Broad experience working with a wide spectrum of volunteers and donors in an outward-facing capacity

Represent the School and the Advancement Office with the highest level of professionalism

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Demonstrates strong management and leadership skills

Creative thinking and eager to learn and seek new ways to engage with the School community and beyond

Strong organizational skills

Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks appropriately

Ability to interact well with a variety of people, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, be self-motivated, and work well in a team environment

Exemplify the highest level of understanding, knowledge, and confidentiality of donors' commitments and involvement with the School

Results-oriented commitment to departmental goals, with a high degree of initiative to motivate donors and volunteers

Advanced interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Energy, curiosity, creativity, willingness to take initiative, and a strong enthusiasm for Annual Funds and advancement events

Computer fluency (Raisers Edge, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, at a minimum, and strong familiarity with web content management)

Ability to perform in a dynamic work environment, meeting multiple deadlines and successfully managing multiple projects at a time

Collaborative work style and comfort working with the advancement team, board members, parents, alumni, faculty and staff, and students
