Job Description (Summary)

Intown Cares is an Atlanta-based nonprofit with a mission to prevent and reverse homelessness and hunger in Intown Atlanta.

The Director of Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic organizational decisions affecting Intown Cares. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, this position will set, implement, execute, and evaluate a strategic development plan to raise ~$2.5M annually. This position will be responsible for sustaining and increasing fundraising from established revenue streams from individuals, business and corporate philanthropy, governmental sources, philanthropic foundations, community partners, and special events. Intown cares has grown its revenue ~3x over the past 5 years, and anticipates continued growth over the coming years to further its mission and impact on the Atlanta community.

The Director of Development will work to build a thriving, responsive community by fostering relationships, developing the skill and will of community partners and investors to share their time, talents, and resources to end homelessness and hunger in Intown Atlanta.

The Director of Development must possess initiative, imagination, strong organizational, strategic and interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated success in working with community investors and related audiences. The position requires previous leadership in community engagement, development, marketing and communications, as well as public speaking and writing skills, events management, and the ability to recruit, manage, and cultivate volunteer leadership.

The Director of Development will serve on the Leadership Team with other senior Intown leaders. The position currently supervises three full-time staff—an Institutional Development Associate, an Individual Giving Associate, and a data analyst. Additionally, the position manages a part-time communications consultant, a contracted grant writer, and contracted event planner for annual Intown Cares spring gala.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Fundraising Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board Development Committee, set goals, facilitate, and oversee execution of annual development strategy.

Maintain strategic oversight of all fundraising plans and activities including but not limited to Individual Donors, Philanthropic Donors, Congregational, Corporate, and Community Partners, Government Grants, and special events.

Oversee execution and tracking of all fundraising activities, including annual campaigns, major donor fundraising, Georgia Gives Day, annual spring gala, government and philanthropic grants, corporate engagement and giving, and other campaigns.

Supervise and manage activities of Development team, including Development Associates, Data Analyst, and contractors to ensure the timely and effective execution of fundraising initiatives.

Coordinate with Executive Director, Fundraising Committee, other staff, and contractors to regularly produce updated fundraising materials.

Support Executive Director and Board in major gifts fundraising and grow the major gifts program.

Coordinate, execute, and evaluate fundraising events like the Heart & Home spring gala, donor parties, and friend-raiser parties.

Act as Intown’s Leadership Team liaison to Development Committee of the Board of Directors.

For any capital campaigns, work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and any outside consultants to plan, execute, and track progress to ensure campaigns are successful.

Communications Responsibilities

With the Communications Consultant, update and execute an annual communications plan to support the organization’s strategic plan and development program, including mailings, publications, and web-based projects. Manage projects through all phases including idea, design, feedback and approval process and implementation.

Develop, track, and manage relationships with a broad base of community partners and investors, including faith-based institutions, print and online media sources, neighborhood groups, local businesses, foundations.

Act as an ambassador to increase awareness of Intown’s mission, issues of homelessness and hunger in Atlanta through public speaking and educational opportunities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000, based on background and experience.

Comprehensive benefits include: generous medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage for the employee and dependents, and a forthcoming retirement program.

Qualifications & Skills :

Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience required.

Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, preferably for a non-profit or human services institution, with a demonstrated record of setting and reaching goals.

Three years of experience as a supervisor preferred.

Exceptional written and oral communication skills, analytical and strategic thinking skills.

Collaborative working style; candidate should work with other team members to seek opportunities to work together, demonstrating mutual trust, respect, and accountability across teams.

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification a plus.

Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, outside partner, and donor relationships.

Demonstrated experience thriving in a deadline-driven environment through efficient time management skills, multi-tasking, prioritization, and tracking of long- and short-term timelines.

Ability to work independently and to exercise independent judgment related to significant projects.

Discretion with financial, donor, and proprietary company information.

Training and experience in Neon CRM or comparable customer relationship management database software.

Strong technological fluency in MS Office suite software, Google platform tools, project management software, MailChimp, DonorSearch and other technologies. Intown Cares utilizes Neon as its donor management system.
